So this game was announced by ESPN but is not official according to USSF or FIFA or Costa Rica.

Anyway, I am going to give the network that gave us The Decision and Barry Melrose the benefit of the doubt on this one.

This will be LA's third #USMNT game of the year and their 58th since 1990

Oh and the game is on a...

Not to digress in this thread into the other issues discussed, but here is another reference to it with the claim that it is confirmed by USSF:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...o-fans-ignores-important-issue-of-bob-bradley

"First off, the USSF confirmed two international friendlies which will be played in September. The first will be at the Home Depot Center on September 2 against Costa Rica before a game against Belgium in Brussels four days later."

    If so, I'm in.

That was my first thought as HDC is pretty much guaranteed a USMNT game every January anyway. If it actually happens it's kinda bullshit.

Wow this is not very fair. How was the US support in Hartford?

So a game in LA four days before a game in Belgium. Genius.

It will likely be an all-MLS squad

im never one to say no to a weekend in LA but i do question the value in the USSF trotting out a B/C squad for a Friday friendly against a team we play often in a market that we visit regularly.....

I just read ESPN's announcement of the Belgium game and they said that it would be the first game for the US team since the Gold Cup.

Needless to say I am

Well here is my opinion on the matter. I live in Tucson, & after the GC Final, I realized I will never have an excuse to miss a US Soccer game in PHX or LA. For $78 round trip on Amtrax to & from LA, its an absolute steal of a deal. After seeing the tailgating atmosphere, free beer, & abundance of weed, I realized that LA USMNT games are a MUST attend. How ever, I feel the pain of the US Soccer fans that can't easily access LA. The last 3 games on the west coast to showcase the US Soccer team have been in LA. Why? Is the Seattle market that poor. Do they still stereotype AZ into thinking that were a racist state. Is the Bay Area to gay for US Soccer. It seems like US Soccer has the mindset that all of its fans are able to afford a plane ticket to LA, no matter where there located.
So I'll never complain about a USSoccer game in LA, but its just surprising that they chose LA again. Maybe its a "makeup" for what happened inside the Rose Bowl.

The Bay Area, Seattle and Arizona need a game. The US vs. Mexico at Qwest Field would sell out and there may be more US supporters because of the Sounders huge fanbase (assuming most would support the US). Either way another game in CA is neat.

I could see high profile friendlies at Seattle, MAYBE but I'll be shocked if anywhere in the Northwest gets a qualifier or game of meaning.

    • Both Portland and Seattle play on turf.
    • It's too far for European based players and major European sides.
    • Only sides I could see you getting of note are Brazil, Argentina, or Mexico. Or possibly an Asian side.

Ur forgetting what Seattle would do if they got a game. Put in a temporary grass field. Just like what Toronto FC did when they hosted Real Madrid. Also, didn't Seattle have a temporary grass field put in place for the friendlies against Chelsea and Barcelona?

Like I said Seattle could do this for a friendly but they will never get a qualifier or significant game run by the Fed as long as they have turf. I know Seattle invented field turf or something but as long as they have field turf they will never get a meaningful game.

temporary grass fields are more dangerous for the players and dont offer the same consistency for playing. not sure if that factors into any USSF decision or not though

when will the AO or Sams Army sell tickets in the supporters section at the Home Depot Center for USA vs Costa Rica 9/2/11???

I've been to every US match held at the HDC, theyre always great for US supporter groups but we are ALWAYS out numbered. i remember last year for US vs Honduras we had a great tailgate for at least 5 hours pregame, we were all pumped to enter the stadium, marching in, chanting, bangin the drums... we walked in the stadium looked around and the whole stadium was in blue. our small section in sec. 138-139 was drowned out by the rest of the stadium. it'd be nice if a larger group od US supporters can join the rest.

I'm thinking of coming to LA but- are there cabs outside the stadium to get back to LAX since I would like to take a red-eye back to the East Coast and how much would the fare be?

It's a 20 minute, 15 mile ride from HDC to LAX and a straight shot on 405.

Excuse me, THE 405 as California people say. :D
