You cannot be a top club when any talented player who joins you immediately has a stop clock counting down. Ever since Pulisic, Sancho Haaland etc broke through they have been linked to bigger moves. A club like Atletico who has similar standing and resources to BvB still manage to keep their players for longer Bayern was in a similar place with Ribery around 2009, just 2yrs after he joined Madrid were all over him but Ulli dug his foot in
If Dortmund really want to challenge for trophies they should go and try to hijack the Haverzt deal. That would be a signal of intent., that footballing success actually matters for the club rather than just making money.
Agreed. Sancho needs to be the last of these situations. It actually is damaging for the clubs reputation. It's fine if you want to be just a business, but not fine if you want to be a club. Make a statement and go and sign Havertz. Don't just buy a promising talent like Bellingham, who you plan to sell.
I was reading the Redcafe forum (United fans forum) about Sancho and it really hurts how fana from other clubs are looling at us.. SELLING CLUB, STEPPING STONE CLUB, MARKET PLACE... And no, they were not mocking at us, they were just honest, thats how they see our club and its 100% true..
Harvetz to Chelsea pisses me off, I don't really care about Werner that much but Kai is a generational talent and I would have loved to have him at Bayern, but we don't have a space for him this year. BvB can take the Sancho money and splash on Kai. I will find that more bearable than losing the best in our league to a club like Chelsea What type of BS deal is that Bellingham? that amount of money for a teenager from 2nd division, I am sure behind the minds of Watzke and even most BvB fans, the major reason they spent that much on Bellingham was that they knew they can sell him off to a top EPL club in a few years for more. What type of mentality is that? Haaland basically came in and has a 2yr exit clause(according to news) because he does not see himself long term at Dortmund Most EPL clubs when they have a teenager who can't get time, you will hear their fans say something like ship/loan him to Dortmund to get games and bring him back after 2yrs
Stepping stone club is not only about making profit, big players want also to win titles. I wasn’t here under the Klopp era, but I don’t remember selling others than Sahin in the 2 winning seasons
No, of course not and neither your nor my post said anything about selling. And after reading Hoeneß' comments in German with more context, that is pretty much what he criticized. Not necessarily that we are after making some fast profits but the general mindset that we are only a stepping stone for any outstanding talent. As for Haaland, we also have to realize that there are two parties at the table. We don't like release clauses but I'm pretty sure that is something that came from Haaland's side. The alternative is losing out on these kind of players.
Yes, but I doubt the board have that mindset. The sad thing is, I am sure this is the case too. He might be a great talent, but I doubt Dortmund plan to see him through his best years. Yes and we cannot have that mentality. Even poorer clubs like Leicester fight better to keep their players. This has to change. Zorc needs to announce that players that come to the club are their for supporting success. Part of that though is keeping a manager who is not good enough. The players should be demanding that Favre go too.
Seriously, I can't believe that there are people who rate Favre at all. And as the saying goes, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
The entire BVB management have come out to defend their policy and attack Ulli. Watzke, Rauball, Zorc Weidenfeller, Matthaus all had something to say Matthäus: "You won't become number one with release clauses for your best players. It's clear to me that Bayern have worked this out over the past 40 years. Money came with success and vice versa."— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) August 3, 2020
I think Dortmund have progressed, it is now less easy to prize away top performers then before. 5-10 years ago it was a lot easier for Bayern to take Dortmund's best players, now they have little chance as BVB are able to put much bigger price tags on players without as much pressure to accept below market value. In the past the likes of Dembele, Auba, Pulisic, Sancho, Haaland and maybe Brandt or Guerreiro would have been inevitable Bayern targets, but now at least Dortmund are able to either retain or demand huge transfer fees for such players and do not lose players to Bayern. I mean compare the prices of these players to the sort of fees the club received for the likes of Hummels, Gotze and Lewa, and also Sahin and Gundogan. To take the next step the club needs to focus on growing it's reputation as well as revenues, the club now has a pretty prominent international reputation but in order to grow it further and become a destination club it needs to show it means business, stop talking like second is a major achievement and hire an ambitious coach.
This is so true, it hurts. Management have lost the plot. Momentum from the Klopp era is gone and Watzke & Zorc have turned Dortmund into a glorified stepping stone club with such clauses. This is not the mentality of a winner, of someone looking for trophies, this is the mentality of a mid-table club who can make good money through buying talented youth, selling them after several seasons and repeating this cycle over and over. The fellas over at Redcafe are right - right now Dortmund is just a marketplace for elite clubs, nothing more. It is just criminal what Watzke & Zorc have done to this club, how they wasted such potential. No guts to hold on to your best players, make a stance and show ambition. Nothing. Just release clauses. I wish we had Atletico's management, the people there seem competent and have balls, unlike the cowards at BVB.
Relax guys. Hoeneß' comments were partly true and in parts misunderstood but Matthäus sounds as ignorant as if he's still commenting from far away and gaining all his knowledge about the league from the yellow press or internet forums. BVB Klopp would have loved being in a position to make the recent transfers and having the financial opportunities of the last years. But sure, we've lost the plot. While we all would prefer to keep players of Sancho's class and build on them, at least those clueless losers in management do so by turning an 8 million investment into 100+ million.
Yes, but what's the point in buying Bellingham except to sell for a profit? I am tired of these players. Also this policy only worked, because a genuine world class player in Reus, despite all his injuries stayed loyal and kept the club repeatedly making CL. I feel sorry for Reus wasting his career at a club lacking ambition. I think Zorc and Watzke should have a long hard look at the laughing stock Dortmund have become recently. For Dortmund to start going the right way they need to 1. Sign Havetz 2. Sack Favre 3. Get rid of average players, who hold the team back. Get rid of Witsel immediately. Get rid of Delaney too. These players are just mediocre and should never be starting for Dortmund.
What's the aim of the club? To make money or win trophies? If it is making trophies then in the last 8 years we are doing as well as Frankfurt and Wolfsburg.
Sell Sancho for 120m. Try and sign Havertz for 80m plus someone like Ikone or Depay for 40m would be the ideal scenario imo.
I haven't seen Depay at Lyon, but I have seen him at United and often with Holland. If Palace are going to sell Zaha for 30 million, then he would be a better signing. My ideal window would be sell: Delaney/Witsel/Sancho. Sign Meunier, Havertz, Zaha.
Both aims need to be pursued and it's a gradual process if you want sustainability. We cannot dethrone Bayern easily with a widening 200-300 million gap. But in regards to putting money over trophies, I think just as it was the case with Dembele and Pulisic, those kind of transfers weren't initiated from our side.
I sort of disagree here. It was not directly initiated from our side, but we have position our team as a stepping stone team who develop players to sell them away for profit. So it's now implicit and every time we buy a new young player, this is the expectation on the player side and now the fan side as well. We need to make it clear to all player coming in that this is no longer the case and we are building a real team with high expectation. *** And the first step is to get rid of that very bad coach we have...
With Dembele, obviously not, though even then I wonder if it was but his antics weren't. What's the point of signing Bellingham? He seems to be one of the most pointless signings for a long time, the only aim is to make some profit. Apparently the Sancho deal has been agreed and we have an opportunity to test the ambition of the club. We have just lost a generational talent. Suddenly due to the virus, there are only a few clubs with serious money: Chelsea, PSG, Havertz and us. I am confident PSG and United won't come in for Havertz. So we only have to compete with Chelsea for him, we can offer him a chance to reunited with Brandt, live locally and form part of a team that we plan to dominate German football. Chelsea are realising that they badly need a left back, a keeper and probably a centre. I don't think they can afford to get the Havertz deal. So let's go in and get it done. This opportuntiy does not come about often. Offer them Delaney and Witsel, well offer those two to anyone.
City brought Torres for only 23M????Wtf What were we thinking, why we didnt signed him im the end, he was our number 1 target in the media from the beggining. 23M,omg..He will be worth 60-70M next season
According to the Ruhr Nachrichten (Dortmund's local paper with close ties to the team), we distanced ourselves from pursuing Torres and Van der Beek after Zorc got to see them play in person and wasn't convinced....not that I agree with it but it is what it is
