On MLSNET.COM it said that DC United might get Dante Washington in exchange for Bryan Namoff. What do u think about this?

As much as I'd like to see Namoff develop here, given our goalscoring woes, I'd do that deal in a heartbeat.

Frankly, I don't think Columbus would go for that deal. We will probably have to throw in a player to be named later or a draft pick.

...or the smooth sounds of Grover Washington Jr would fit in quite well up top.

I wonder how much more the Columbia MD native, Dante, makes than Namoff. I can imagine that the Cows want to trade Dante if they think Buddle is viable. Given that probably they have been shopping him most of the year. Certainly we've heard rumors to that effect of United asking for Dante earlier in the year and the Cows asking for too much. Possibly no team wanted to give them what they hoped to get for him and Namoff is the best offer they have.

    Maybe we could give them:

    Namoff
a future consideration from Kansas City
    a future consideration from Chicago
and a second round draft pick from Chicago

I think that's the "fluff" we've traded for this year.

Though I'm sure United would like to pull this trade off merely for the abilities of Dante, think of the marketing possibilities.....

...all of those disenchanted fans from Columbia (who haven't been around since we got rid of the last of the Cooks boys) would have incentive to come to RFK to cheer on one of their own townsfolk.

    What Lowe said.

I've blinked 9 times now, but I still cannot believe that this is a serious rumor. Given that LA desperately needs a partner up top to go with Ruiz, AND that they love big strong target types, AND that he's fast, skilled, experienced and coachable, I just don't see how Columbus would get rid of him for Namoff.

Don't get me wrong, Namoff definitely has potential, but he's just not the player that Washington already is. If he develops, he might be, but that's very uncertain. The only ways I can see this happening is if A) Dante's salary cap figure is just way too high for a reserve (and they have an up-and-coming talent in Buddle with a much lower number), or B) We give up something else. IMHO, this years draft could be FILLED with good youth talent, so every team can stock up its developmental/P-40 slots with quality American youth players. So, I'm not down with dealing draft picks, but I'd throw in Villegas. :D

If this one doesn't pan out I just hope someone beats our front office peoples heads in with a stapler... --We should pin a medal on the person that keeps throwing these rumors out there... it helps to keep our eyes off the teams record.

Why would you want Washington when you can have Wolde Harris for a second round draft pick?

Probably because Wolde Harris will be cut this winter so we could get him for free. That is if we wanted him but since Ali Curtis has a better future as a fifth forward than Harris does, why bother?
