Tim Fosu-Mensah deputised for him at centre-back and former Reds midfielder Quinton Fortune has tipped the youngster to start on Sunday if required after an impressive cameo. Ashley Young and Phil Jones both played for the Under-21s on Monday night and are presumably closer to first-team returns. Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney are both in training as they continue their recovery from injury, but Bastian Schweinsteiger and Will Keane are still sidelined. Louis van Gaal is expected to give an update on his squad when speaking to the media on Friday afternoon.
Leicester need 12pts from the remaining games, which already has them in great position to get it done. If Spurs lose this w/e and they win, the gap will be in double digits and will be practically insurmountable...
Tottenham will be favorites for this one and they have to get a result obviously, but on the same token, if we manage to get a draw or better, it won't be a real surprise for me either. This the kind of game we can potentially flourish in, unless we have a major breakdown tactically and defensively, just like what United experienced earlier in the season at the Emirates against Arsenal. The midfield battle and how United handle Eriksen, Alli and the supply line to Kane be the key to the game.
We struggled going toe to toe with Spurs way before they even hit gear and started click back in August. And that was at home. I have no expectations other than a loss. The only remote chance we have is if Rashford/Martial just happen to be at the absolute peak of their powers, and nobody makes a silly individual mistake.
MEN reporting that Woodward position is that LVG stays if he achieves top four, if true hope we loose for the good of the club
LvG has a year left on his contract so let's not pretend that getting rid of him will be either difficult or expensive.
I dont think it is that simple - if they wanted him gone and were not fussed about the $$ he would be gone already. They obviously buy into what he is doing to an extent, however if he fails his minumum target set by the board and that is reflected in his contract there will be little choice when added to sponsor/supporter pressure from missing top 4. So I think the MEN story has some credit.
@nimma is too busy protesting the proliferation of pizza joints in his home town. He thinks dough should only be used for roti.
Keane recounted one particular pre-match team-talk which reflected Ferguson’s ability to read the mindset of his players. “I thought I knew what the group might need, that we didn’t need a big team talk,” said Keane. “It was Tottenham at home. I thought please don’t go on about Tottenham, we all know what Tottenham is about, they are nice and tidy but we’ll ********ing do them. He came in and said: ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’, and that was it. Brilliant.” http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/oct/20/roy-keane-ferguson-manchester-united
This. If I hear the words "faint hopes" and "Manchester United" used again one more time I'm going to fcking puke.
Also "turning point". I don't care if we reach the CL or not. Please just put a fork in this season already. And put a fork in next season if he stays.
Nice to see TFM get the start at RB but not surprised to see Carrick get the nod ahead of Herrera as Van Gaal is probably thinking containment against Spurs's midfield. Herrera would still have been the better option though.
