that is this year's top players but what about international players? Are there any americans, europeans, or south american players there?
From Europe, two players that I can recall off the top of my head are Stoyanov (JEF Utd) and Frode Johnsen (Grampus). Doesn't seem to be that many of them these days, compared to when the J League was much younger. There are a lot of Latin Americans though. Almost every club (except for JEF Utd who have a strong Central European influence) has at least one or two of them. A few have even had caps for their countries. Not sure about Americans though.
Brazilians players account for most of J-League's foreign stars. They are steals and can get accustomed to Japanese sociatey easily thanks to many Brazilian workers in Japan. Fabao (Brazil) - named in 2006 Brazilian League best XI Danilo (Brazil) - 2006 Sao Paulo's No 10 Washington (Brazil) - 2004 Brazilian League top scorer with 34 goals Magno (Brazil) - 2000 Brazlian League top scorer Ponte (Brazil) - former Leverkusen player Franca (Brazil) - former Leverkusen star, capped 9 times for Brazil NT Lucas (Brazil) - member of the Brazilian 2000 Olympic team Juninho (Brazil) Bare (Brazil) Marques (Brazil) - capped 11 times and played 6 games for Brazil NT in 2002 WCQ. Ueslei (Brazil) Thome (Brazil) - former Chelsea and Wigan player Lopes (Brazil) - 2001 Copa Libertadores top scorer Hulk (Brazil) Stoyanov (Bulgaria) - member of the Bulgarian 2004 EURO team Haas (Austria) - member of the Austrian 1998 WC team, capped 40 times for the NT Johnsen (Norway) - capped 31 times and scored 10 goals for Noway NT Spilar (Slovakia) - capped 32 times for Slovakia NT Kim Jung-Woo (South Korea) - capped 21 times for South Korea NT Kim Jin-Kyu (South Korea) - member of the S. Korean 2006 WC team. Cho Jae-Jin (South Korea) - member of the S. Korean 2006 WC team. Lee Han-Jae (North Korea) - member of the N. Korean 2006 WCQ team. Wanchope (Costa Rica) - member of the Costa Rican 2006 WC team Petrovski (Australia) - member of the 2007 Asian Cup Qualification team.
The last American to play in the J League I believe was Dan Calichman, who started at Mazda FC before they turned into Sanfrecce Hiroshima Jun Marques Davidson is Japanese with an American father, he learned how to play at the American Global Soccer School in Los Angeles before getting signed by Omiya. He turned down chances to play for US youth teams. Saul Martinez, formerly of Miami Fusion and Honduras Nats played here for about a minute Tokyo Verdy has an Irish kid by the name of Eugene Killoran who grew up in Japan.
Ponte played I think several times for German NT. He is German/Brazilian. I'm glad he's in Japan though, don't want to see him back in Germany
Okay someone PLEASE explain this guy (in particular how he got this name). He's bigger than Washington I assume?
Patrick Mboma was also an international star who played in the J.League He played for Gamba Osaka, Tokyo Verdy and Vissel Kobe. He end his career at Kobe in 2005 because of a bad knee injury
