    Kolo Toure...the best defensemen

Well in the "Top 5 at every position" thread I noticed that only 1 or 2 of you have Tour in your top 5, however, I would regard him as the best or second best in the world. I was watching an Arsenal game and the announcer, as biased as they might be, said the same thing, so I was just wondering, whether you think he is or isn't the best, what are you opinions on him?

Laughable comments. What I posted previously stands and anyone outside of 'Chelsea' knows that I am correct.

He's top 10. Last season he stepped up his game but is still raw. When on-form you could argue that he merits a higher placing but generally speaking I think top 10 is fair. He's good at most things but not yet excellent at any which is why I rate other defenders higher. If he continues to progress the way he has then he'll definitely start moving up, particularly as the established greats start to wind-down their careers.

    Thread on Kolo Toure merged.

If you start a thread on a subject, you shouldn't start another one to discuss that thread.

  So according to you, one's form is discounted due to diving?

Well, then, I suppose Cristiano Ronaldo's complete and utter shit after the World Cup.

Care to name a more in-form striker? Because up until this point in the season, I really don't think there's anyone on the same level as Drogba. Leading Prem scorer and tied for the CL scoring lead. He's not been great every game, but then again, no player in Europe has been. He still has the great work rate that characterized him over the past two years, but now he's also scoring goals, a wide variety and in clutch situations. Not to mention his presence on defensive set pieces. I don't see who else is in better form thus far, in terms of strikers.

Júlio César deserves a mention this season. He has been in amazing form for Inter.

GK: Cech, Buffon, Lehmann, van der Sar, Casillas
RB: Zambrotta, J. Zanetti, Dani Alves, Sagnol, Miguel
    LB: Lahm, Ashley Cole, Grosso------
CB: Cannavaro, Puyol, Gallas, Toure, Mertesacker :)
DM: Frings, Essien, Makelele, Gattuso, Vieira
AM: Kaka, Ronaldinho, Juninho, Cesc, Deco
Wings: C. Ronaldo, Messi, Robben, Schweinsteiger, Ribery
CF: Klose, Henry, Eto'o, Drogba, Rooney

    Not in order.

I think Dani Alves is a wonderful player, very underrated because he doesn't play for a glamourous side, ditto for the Werder trio of Mertesacker, Frings and Klose who'd I actually build any team around of. Grosso isn't really that good, but so are a lot of LBs not named Lahm, Zambrotta or Cashley Cole :D

Abt. Drogba, there's no point in leaving him out now, he is a menace and currently unstoppable.

    Keepers:
Buffon (there is no doubting that hes the best in the world)
    Cech
    Lehmann
    Cesar
    Coupet

    Central defenders:
Nesta (in my opinion hes better than cannavaro, but his world cup cost him)
    Toure
    Vidic (a very underated player)
    Puyol
    Cannavaro

    Side backs:
    A. Cole
Quaresma (i like the way this guy plays)
    Zambrotta
    Riise (can do it all)
    Eboue

    Def/central mids:
    Ballack
    Gerrard
    Essien
    Vieira
    M. Diarra

    Att. mids:
Ronaldinho (best player in the world)
    Kaka
    Rosicky
Van Persie (i like him more as a play maker as opposed to striker)
    Juninho

    Wingers:
    Cristiano Ronaldo
Giggs (been one of the best for a long time)
    Ribery
Van Der Vaart (could play for any club in the world)
Kewell (i cant believe that no one has mentioned him yet, injuries aside, on his day hes one of the best in the world)

    Strikers:
Henry (best striker in the world)
    Eto'o
Shevchenko (had a bad season so far, but still one of the best youll ever see)
    Rooney
    Villa

    just my opinion.

i have to pick the best 5 in the world.. alex is not better than anyone i mentioned.

quaresma can play either as a left back or winger. when he plays as a side back he dominates, plus he doesnt fit into the top 5 wingers in my opinion and i wanted to put him in.:p

VN might be having a good run of late, but shevchenko is one of the best strikers i have ever seen, RVN isnt.

    giggs is a gun.

i should give an honourable mention to ibrahimovic, hes tops.
