I think it was 2 goals in 4 games in 105 minutes to be exact. I went to their web page. The other goals and assist were for liga intercalar...not bad....

So when I first saw the title of this thread all I could think was "I sure hope that isn't Praia, as in the capital of the Cape Verde Islands." Turns out it's a Portuguese team :)

Praia means "beach" in Portuguese, by the way. Cape Verde is one of a number of Lusophone countries scattered around the world!

It's especially impressive when considering that Estoril's top scorer this season (Brazilian striker Calé) has only 7 goals.

Taylor came on in the 72nd minute as Estoril lost 2-1 at home to Feirense today.

Their starting striker Rodrigo Hote was sent off only 5 minutes into the game but Estoril still managed to score the first goal. But then Feirense striker Adilson found the net in the 60th and 91st minute to the visitors the win.

taylor is back in portugal after some "documentation" problems kept him away for a little while. the rest of the team came back from pre-season in brazil last week. it'll be interesting to see what role he finds this season. he definitely finished strong last year, but traffic basically re-tooled estoril's entire roster. only a handful of guys are back, so i have no idea where tony will find himself in the pecking order yet.

Great news. This kid needs to build off his last season.

He has the athleticism to be top level, just needs tactical and technical improvement.

    Translated from O Jogo:

    Saved by an American

Estoril and Varzim drew yesterday and the division of points makes a good indication for the future of the two teams. With a rather renewed starting lineup anxiety betrayed Estoril in the first half and Varzim took advantage of the nervousness of their opponent. They dominated the first 45 minutes, in which André Carvalho spurred the midfield and fed dangerous passes. Therefore, it was natural that Rui Martins would open the scoring after a cross from Gonçalo Graça. Once behind, Estoril reacted immediately and Tony Taylor (one of the most inspired) hit the bar. In the second half the words of Vinícius Eutrópio had an impact and the introduction of Luís Leal changed everything. The Estoril attack gained momentum and at the first opportunity the former Moreirense player hit the crossbar. Three minutes later Luís Leal set up Tony Taylor and the American gave no chance to Varzim keeper Avelino.

Re: Tony Taylor signs with GD Estoril-Praia

From the match report of the Varzim website:

After Luís Leal threatened with a shot against the bar, one of his passes then released Tony Taylor and tore open the Varzim defense, as the American scored to even things up at 1-1.

    [...]

In injury time Tony Taylor again sent a chill through the Varzim goal as he missed a clear scoring opportunity.

So, Tony will be playing against Freddy Adu's former team this season.

Re: Tony Taylor signs with GD Estoril-Praia

And Tony is about the same age so...... ;)

There has to be sub-text to that post because it's too much of a random observation otherwise.

I think I see what you're getting at, but as much of a Freddy detractor as I am, I don't think it would be a fair point to say that he is lower on the prospect totem poll than even guys like Taylor because Tony plays in the same league as Freddy's former club. For one, Beleneses were in the Portugese Liga when Freddy was there. For two, he was a year younger.

The reason that IMO, Taylor is above on the totem pole is because he possesses physical tools, and possibly work ethic, that Freddy doesn't.
