In addition to his goalscoring exploits for the reserves, Toni Taylor made his debut (?) for Estoril in league play yesterday, playing 1 minute off the bench in a 1-1 home draw vs Carregado. Bryan Arguez sat on the bench.

Estoril reserves played Benfica reserves in the final for the Liga Intercalar South Zone.

The game ended 2-2 and Estoril won 4-3 in penalties. They will play Pacos de Ferreira reserves for the Liga Intercalar title!

All I know about Tony Taylor is that he played in the game, and converted one of the penalties, but did not score either of the goals in game. Info is hard to find.

Re: Tony Taylor signs with GD Estoril-Praia

the liga intercalar championship will be on the 28th. estoril will play against pacos de ferreira, who won the northern zone. estoril's coach has said he'll be using the same players, so it'll be a good chance for taylor arguez to win some hardware (though i'm sure a reserve league trophy isn't exactly what they'd been hoping to win when they moved to europe).

taylor has been good in the reserves, and has definitely earned his time with the first team. there are only 3 games remaining, so hopefully he keeps seeing the field. they're not even close to promotion, and aren't in immediate relegation danger unless there's a perfect storm, so it can't hurt to give him a chance.

arguez hasn't played much, even with the reserves, so i haven't had the chance to see him. but i guess it's a good sign that he was out there in the benfica game.

estoril beat aves 1-0 today. taylor came on in the 61st minute, and ended up scoring the only goal in the 89th. ugly game, but it doesn't matter bc it means estoril can't get relegated. (arguez didn't dress for estoril, nor did kamani hill for aves.)

    Tony Taylor is a champion!

Estoril reserves won the Liga Intercalar final today 2-1 over Pacos de Ferreira reserves. I don't know if Tony played, but it's likely that he did. He definitely didn't score either goal. Congrats to Tony, he is now free to join Miami FC, although he has been getting PT for the first team at Estoril.

I don't really know how this "tournament" works. It's hard to find information since it is a lowly reserve tournament.

This seems to say that Estoril have already won.

Yeah, here's an article from Record: http://www.estorilpraia.pt/news/R2904.pdf

It has lineups; Tony Taylor started and played 51 minutes. There's a photo with the trophy.

    EDIT: Here's another article: http://www.estorilpraia.pt/news/J2904.pdf

Re: Tony Taylor signs with GD Estoril-Praia

yes, estoril won the intercalar. i don't know where the may 1 date came from bc it's definitely a single leg championship. it is a bizarre tournament though. it's a reserve league, but teams from the second division, like estoril, use an awful lot of the first teamers. that could be because they simply don't have huge rosters though. whatever the reason, i like it bc intercalar games are free. anyway, for the intercalar the country is basically divided into north and south. so it doesn't matter what division your first team plays in, it only matters where you are geographically. hence why estoril played mafra (third division) in the southern zone semifinals, and then benfica (first division, obviously) in the finals of the southern zone. none of the portuguese papers mention taylor in their recaps, so he clearly didn't do much in his 51 minutes. but i bet the coach wishes he hadn't taken him out bc his replacement got a red card 7 minutes later.

Its good he didn't join Miami FC yet, as he scored a late game tying goal for the Estoril 1st team today vs. Fatima.

Well, it appears that he has one now:

Also states that his real name is "Alejandro Antonio Taylor". Anyone know what his ethnic background is specifically?

The more he play the more he will score. I saw the game today and dont know wy he is not playing more. Maybe they dont trust american players , but he is relly showing them what he can do for the team.. They probable be in first division by now if Toni play before. He is very talented.....

I been following Estoril for a wile and the team was not doing well in the intercalar until Toni began playing and he gave three of the assist in other games and score 2 goals for the team. He is very valuable and hope they can recognize that for him.....

He has 2 goals in 124 minutes over 4 games. One goal was a game-winning goal, the other a game-tying goal.
