A crisp March afternoon. Ruby's gradually filling up with more and more people, chatting around that pool table. Scott behind the bar pouring nasty cheap whiskey and PBRs. The day-drunk march to the stadium (with a pit stop to pick up Mad-Dog roadies). Crossing the tracks. Away fans. The Corner rocking. This was my first game as a season ticket holder in Nordecke (or anywhere, really). There was a glimmer of hope at the end of that 2007 season (I think a bad call on KCs turf thwarted a playoff berth late in the season, if I remember correctly), but I doubt anyone picked us to be the best team in the league and win the title, but I'll be damned if we didn't do it anyway. Great times.
Seeing your post reminded me of seeing your last name at the pet store recently. There's a Dr. Elsey's Cat Food.... Any relation?
Not quite sure, but Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter is worth the price. I always mused I should see if I could get a discount what with my last name....
Today in 1996: Columbus 4 - 0 DC And a lot of people probably forgot or don't realize that the first goal wasn't actually scored by Brian McBride, but by DC's Thor Lee. He was waived on 4/16/1996 and never played again in MLS.
And now he just tracks KPIs and deepens industry knowledge... https://easelogistics.com/company/leadership
A few days ago (how could @Ch(Elsey) miss it?) was the anniversary of the sacking of Nee. Today is the anniversary of the 2008 team visiting the White House.
I still have that photo in my office (at least I hope it's still there, since I've not been to my office in 16 months). Prized possession.
Hopefully you didn't leave any food in there. I'm surprised they didn't let people in one at a time, if even a month or so later. COSI let their employees in to collect personal items. Obviously, such was up to the discretion of each business. If even the "essential personnel" were in there, I'm surprised they didn't have someone drop it at the door for you to pick up. If it's safe for grocery stores to do curbside pickup, I'd think it'd be safe/acceptable for other places. But now that it's relatively under control, I'm surprised they don't let you back in.
No food. That I can recall.... We did have "critical items" mailed to us. My wrist pad for one. Volunteers went back yesterday. We'll see if we are allowed back to pick up items at some point if we are not one of the volunteers. But I may have Schoedingers plant right now. It was supposed to be watered.... Supposed.
Volunteers go back before paid. That's interesting. Obviously, I don't know where you work, but I'd think volunteers would go back last... although COSI is still getting going and they're not fully staffed or back to full hours and there's talk about bringing adult volunteers back in limited capacities. OSU hospitals, AFAIK, still don't have volunteers back, although that's a much different situation. It could be a while yet before they come back, although they're allowing two visitors which is certainly an improvement. My dentist has gone back to letting us show up without phone calls from the parking lot. Things are certainly improving.
Eight years ago today, MLS announced the sale of the Columbus Crew from Hunt Sports Group to a then-unknown "investor"(*) out of San Francisco. (*)I use the term loosely. Very loosely.
I THINK I still have mine. Where it is would be a tougher question, but I'm pretty sure I have it somewhere.
I was there for that very first 2-0. And for the last 2-0 last June. As well as some very significant dos-a-ceros in between.
