This is only the last update of the season if the versions which can go into the playoffs end up with a team that doesn't. Its just the last one of the regular season.
Quick update going into the last RS matches for the year, New England and Colorado both have it going into the last match. New England lost it and won it back in the intervening time, but Colorado has had a death grip on the reverse trophy. A quick bit which is somewhat interesting, if both Vancouver and Portland lose, then the reverse trophy will enter the playoffs for the first time ever. For obvious reasons I'm hoping that doesn't happen, but it would be interesting if it did. If this happens, I may want/need to multiply the reverse trophy like I have with the forward ones. Edit: Nevermind about the playoffs thing, I forgot that I had made the reverse one RS only, so it will remain so. As far as the forward trophies, if Toronto wins, then all of them end today, otherwise the playoffs, playoff-combined, and all league trophies continue on into the playoffs with New England. I'll have the full list of matches for the intervening time later today.
Full update: Forward trophies: CLB wins it from NER 9/20, then retains it against MON on 9/27. NER then wins it back from CLB on 10/4, and holds it against MON, HOU, and TOR on 10/11, 10/16, and 10/25 respectively. The regular season version will end with New England, since the regular season is over. The Playoffs, Playoff (series combined), and all leagues versions will continue in the MLS playoffs. Reverse trophy: Colorado has maintained its death grip on this trophy, retaining it against RSL, SJE, SEA, CHV, FCD, and VAN to end their season. They have extended their longest streak of retention from 8 up to 14. This streak also sets a league record for retaining the trophy, beating out RSL and TOR. COL has now won/retained it a total of 51 times, second only to NER, who have done so 58 times. My next update will probably be at the end of the playoffs, but could very well happen earlier.
All right, here's the end of the season report: All situations which include playoffs: NER retains it against CLB and NYR, then LAG takes it in the MLS Cup. NER was able to boost their maximum streak length in the Incl Playoffs and All Leagues versions to 8. As stated before, COL is currently streaking on the Reverse one, with a streak of 14 so far. MLS including playoffs, MLS playoffs combined, and All leagues versions end with LAG MLS regular season only ends with NER Reverse ends with COL
Ahh, but there is one more update before 2015 starts, and it is usually my favorite post in this thread to do. =D Once the full schedule is out, I will figure out the earliest possible way for each team to get each trophy. If I had a more automated way of producing this information, I would strive to provide this update after every "championship" game, because that would give every "neutral" the side they should root for in said game. Alas, it is more work than I care to try to take on each week, so I don't.
Alright, this post will take a while, but here goes. Earliest possible time to win each trophy type! There may be more than one path to this number of games, there is no real logic to which path I chose in those cases, its just the easiest one for me to find.. MLS including playoffs, MLS playoffs combined, and All leagues versions CHI - 1 game (win against LAG) CLB - 6 games (LAG over CHI, LAG over POR, LAG over HOU, LAG over DCU, VAN over LAG, win against VAN) COL - 4 games (LAG over CHI, LAG over POR, HOU over LAG, win against HOU) DCU - 4 games (LAG over CHI, LAG over POR, LAG over HOU, win against LAG) FCD - 5 games (LAG over CHI, POR over LAG, POR over SKC, POR over VAN, win against POR) HOU - 3 games (LAG over CHI, LAG over POR, win against LAG) LAG - Holds MON - 4 games (CHI over LAG, VAN over CHI, ORL over VAN, win against ORL) NER - 4 games (CHI over LAG, CHI over VAN, SJE over CHI, win against SJE) NYC - 4 games (LAG over CHI, POR over LAG, SKC over POR, win against SKC) NYR - 5 games (CHI over LAG, VAN over CHI, ORL over VAN, MON over ORL, win against MON) ORL - 3 games (CHI over LAG, VAN over CHI, win against VAN) PHI - 4 games (CHI over LAG, CHI over VAN, CHI over SJE, win against CHI) POR - 2 games (LAG over CHI, win against LAG) RSL - 5 games (CHI over LAG, CHI over VAN, SJE over CHI, SJE over NER, win against SJE) SEA - 5 games (LAG over CHI, LAG over POR, HOU over LAG, HOU over COL, win against HOU) SJE - 3 games (CHI over LAG, CHI over VAN, win against CHI) SKC - 3 games (LAG over CHI, POR over LAG, win against POR) TOR - 5 games (CHI over LAG, CHI over VAN, CHI over SJE, CHI over PHI, win against CHI) VAN - 2 games (CHI over LAG, win against CHI) MLS regular season CHI - 3 games (SEA over NER, SJE over SEA, over SJE) CLB - 6 games (NER over SEA, NER over NYC, NER over MON, NER over SJE, NER over COL, over NER) COL - 3 games (NER over SEA, NYC over NER, over NYC) DCU - 5 games (NER over SEA, NER over NYC, MON over NER, ORL over MON, over ORL) FCD - 3 games (SEA over NER, SEA over SJE, over SEA) HOU - 4 games (NER over SEA, NYC over NER, COL over NYC, over COL) LAG - 5 games (SEA over NER, SEA over SJE, SEA over FCD, SEA over HOU, over SEA) MON - 3 games (NER over SEA, NER over NYC, over NER) NER - Holds NYC - 2 games (NER over SEA, over NER) NYR - 5 games (NER over SEA, NER over NYC, MON over NER, MON over ORL, over MON) ORL - 4 games (NER over SEA, NER over NYC, MON over NER, over MON) PHI - 4 games (SEA over NER, SJE over SEA, CHI over SJE, over CHI) POR - 4 games (SEA over NER, SEA over SJE, FCD over SEA, over FCD) RSL - 5 games (NER over SEA, NER over NYC, NER over MON, SJE over NER, over SJE) SEA - 1 game (over NER) SJE - 2 games (SEA over NER, over SEA) SKC - 4 games (NER over SEA, NYC over NER, NYC over COL, over NYC) TOR - 5 games (SEA over NER, SJE over SEA, CHI over SJE, CHI over PHI, over CHI) VAN - 6 games (NER over SEA, NER over NYC, NER over MON, SJE over NER, SJE over RSL, over SJE) I'm not going to bother with the reverse trophy, because that isn't a "prize" so much as a punishment. =P
Interesting to note: Columbus can't get any of the "forward" trophies for quite some time due to their schedule.
As requested, here is the first update of the 2015 season (does not include today's game): Regular Season only trophy: Seattle captures from New England, San Jose captures from Seattle, then holds it against Chicago, New England captures it from San Jose, then holds it against Colorado Playoffs, Playoffs combined, and All league trophies: LA holds it against Chicago, Portland, and Houston. DC captures it from LA, then holds it against Orlando No records of note in the forward trophies. Reverse trophy: Colorado held it against Philadelphia, New York City, Houston, and New England. Colorado extended their already record streak up to 18. Based on voodoo knowledge of an update yet to come, Colorado's 18 will be it, and that puts them in the lead by 5.
Updates as of today's games: Playoffs, Playoffs combined, and All leagues trophies: DC holds it against New York Red Bulls, Houston, Vancouver, Columbus, and Kansas City. All leagues: 7 game streak, 2 shy of their record, well shy of the overall record. Playoffs and combined: 7 game streak, 1 shy of their record, well shy of the overall record. Orlando had their first contest for the Playoffs and Playoffs combined trophies in the last game of the last update. Regular Season only trophy: New England holds it against Columbus, Philadelphia, Salt Lake, New York Red Bulls, and Orlando. Their streak of 7 puts them 3 shy of their record, and well shy of the overall record. Reverse trophy: As predicted by my voodoo knowledge, Colorado's streak ended at 18. The next nearest streak is 13. Colorado forced the trophy to Dallas on 4/10, who then quickly passed it on to Toronto on 4/18. Then Orlando captured the trophy for their first time ever on 4/26, and kept it against New England on 5/8. Since this is their first time holding the trophy, Orlando's streak of 2 is their longest. We don't get this opportunity very often, but this gives us a look at who is the most successful at avoiding this trophy. Two teams have only held it for 1 game: Seattle and Portland. Orlando's 2 puts them level with the Miami Fusion, and one behind both Montreal and Vancouver. New York City are the only team that hasn't held it at all, and that's probably primarily because they just haven't had much time to take it yet.
Update time! As of today: Playoffs, Playoffs combined, and All leagues trophies: DC holds it against Orlando Philly wins it off of DC, then holds it against the Red Bulls DC wins it back off of Philly, then holds it against Chicago Finally Toronto beats DC to grab it for the end of this update. Regular Season only trophy: New England retainst it against Toronto. KC wins it off of New England, then holds it against Seattle, Dallas, and Seattle. Reverse trophy: Orlando extends the streak to 3 against DC before forcing it upon LA. LA then forces it onto Houston. Houston holds on to it against New York City. Finally the Red Bulls yank it from Houston to finish out this update.

Just curious, what's the difference between these 2 versions? "MLS Including Playoffs" "MLS Playoff series combined"
Including Playoffs is just including all playoff games as normal. Playoff series combined is as below.
Curiously, NER are high up in 2nd place, without ever winning the SS before. By the way, there have been 23 teams playing in MLS (20 current + 3 defunct). Which team(s) have never "won" the Forward (Reg. Ssn only) & Reverse Trophies?
Orlando and New York City have never won any of the forward ones. New York City has never won the "reverse" one.
Oh yes, the 2 new expansion teams, I should have known... What's the next most likely opportunity for NYCFC to break the duck on Reverse Trophy? Likewise, for OCSC/NYCFC to finally win the Forward Trophy.
Those are typically hard things to answer. NYC plays Toronto (who holds the forward trophies except for RS only) on the 20th.
Indeed, it's a combination of Luck (given the opportunities to play in Title Games) and Form (take full advantage of such Title Games)... How about Reverse Trophy?
Reverse trophy is just as much luck and form, and so just as hard to really say anything meaningful about. Unrelatedly, I decided to do a quick "what if" for each team starting with a "forward" trophy at the start of the season. It collapses down to the two possibilities we currently have with forward trophies, either Kansas City or Toronto have it, no matter who started with it. Toronto has it if it starts with 8 teams: CHI, DAL, LAG, NYC, PHI, RSL, SJE, SKC Kansas City has it if it starts with 12 teams: CLB, COL, DCU, HOU, MTL, NER, NYR, ORL, POR, SEA, TOR, VAN
