Wigan broke out really fast. Good play by the defender to block a shot on a tight angle.

Leighton Baines = stud. Another great FK that had to be saved really well.

Should have been a Wigan penalty. Very clumsy challenge and missed the ball entirely.

wow. McCarthy gets fouled ON the line. Close to as a PK as you can get, without it being a PK

Should've been a FK. The challenge was outside the box.

Wigan have come out guns blazing in this half. They have Everton on their back foot atm

Landon look so comfortable with the ball out there, even in tight spaces.

Donovan just hit a bad corner and then gave the ball away. Guess it happens, even to him.

Donovan is starting to look dangerous.

That was a beautiful run. Good play by the defender though.

Where are the Pienaar and Fellaini that new American fans have come to adore?

Dang and I thought Landon was the only one having problems with the physicality of this match. Piennar just got stripped pretty badly.

Wigan really go for the desperate defending. Twice now in the last few minutes, with Pienaar and Donovan - they;ve had the ball running towards the end line, and each time a Wigan player leaves his feet to dispossess - Bocanegra style.

This match is start-stop-start-stop. The moments of brilliance have to come in little split seconds. Donovan's had moments of danger but hasn't been able to get the link-up going. It's a choppy match.

Best play of the 2nd half thus far I think was Pienaar winning that free kick, but nothing came of it.

He got plowed into. What do you want him to do? When a defender goes in like that it's either a foul or a loose ball.

Looks like bainas and LD are connecting well. Just took a fantastic tackle to keep LD from taking the ball dangerously into the box

It's all well and good until a WC star gets sidelined from a clumsy lunge. I hate defending like this

Cahill, who earlier got elbowed in the face, barely touches someone, and gets called for a foul. WTF.

    EDIT

And apparently Saha isn't allowed to go up for a header. That's considered a foul now

I wouldn't object to Bily coming on for Pienaar. He's made several poor passes on the break, and with the way this match is moving, getting one on a counter-attack may be their only way to score.

EDIT: Pienaar overthinks it and again gives the ball away during a bit of Everton possession.

This is the worst he has looked in quite some time.

This match is opening up very quickly.
