Comments 1) A fair piece, but nothing any regular Big Soccer reader couldn't have written themselves 2) I think the author overstated MLS/SUM "running/managing" the Mexican National team. The author should have stuck to "promoting" 3) Did this article make the print magazine? Andy
at the bottom of the article it says it is in the May 22nd issue of time, so I guess we are getting an early release.

Nice positive article in a major publication. Can't complain about that. Uhhh.... I think it's safe to say that lucaartemi will never be writing articles for Time.
"The 25,000-capacity, two-tiered Red Bull stadium is designed to deliver a more European feel to the customers" WOW! 2-tiered all around or 2-tiered like the old Metrostars design??? This looks promising...
i liked this quote at the end: "The people who don't believe never will," he says. "The people who believe always will. Now we're converting people who were on the fence." i don't know ... i just like that philosophy, especially with something as polarizing as soccer is in the USofA.
Good article. One thing which I do not like is how MLS was 'born of the 94 WC'. If I am not mistaken, the creation of a first division was a requiremet to being awarded the WC. Other than that, good stuff. References to Sox-Yanks excite me, being from Boston and all. If we could create that universal kind of buzz about soccer, be it MLS or USA/Mexico, it would greatly enhance the perception of soccer here. Sure soccer fanatics here have that passion, but Sox/Yanks is city wide, even non baseball fans get excited.
That is true but once you peel the onion, you realize that not a single dime was invested into MLS until the WC was a smashing success. I have no fear of being wrong when I state that if the World Cup was a failure, MLS would not have existed as we knew it in 1996. Andy
Reading that article just made me feel better about MLS. It pretty much got the point across that MLS is here to stay at least in the near future.
The first and second paragraphs seemed to be non-sequiters. They also called the Mex Nat Team "Los Tri." It's El Tri, right? An okay article, nothing too ra-ra but nothing too poo-poo either. Meh
Yeah, it's El Tri Color...and I was not aware that MLS manages the Mexican National Team. I suppose the Mexicans aren't aware of this yet.
I like the "CHRIS ROLFE VERSUS MINORITIES" part of that rant. Sounds like a Tenacious D song title...
Looking at his limited body of work, it appears to be an amalgam of Damon Esquire, Brushes Sand, and whip.
One of the tenents of change theory is that rather than wasting time and resources on those who are against you, spend it on the fence sitters and enlist those who are for you to help with that conversion. Seems to me that's what our role is...to bring along those who are on the fence and not to waste time and energy railing against the troglodites.
A virtual crazyass pan handler sweeet. Complete with muttered racist gibberish. I can almost smell the piss stained pants and the 40 of Steele Reserve.
