Re: the new shooting at Half Moon Bay, everyone can relax. I know it's a downer that at least seven more people are dead; but more importantly, the gun is safe and unharmed.

Beneficially for Republicans, people are slaughtered in mass shootings on a regular basis, so it is never the appropriate time to talk about gun reform.

That certainly does happen. Progessives will shut down conversations that they don't welcome, just as the right does. That said, to my knowledge progessives don't shut down discussions about people who are being slaughtered.
