I vaguely recall that the date of her stateside move was supposed to be the 12th... Don't hold me to that, though, since I can't for the life of me remember where I would have heard that.
The game in Chicago is next Sunday June 12th. That's well over a week. Plenty of time to get here and get in uniform. In the men's game, players play for their country an then get back to their Club team in Europe a day or two later.
Not yet. She has a qualifier today, and is still technically under contract with Lyon. They are trying to get her released a little early. http://www.oregonlive.com/portland-thorns/2016/05/it_remains_unclear_when_amandi.html
Thanks. I was hoping to see her play next weekend. So it's possible she may not play for Portland at all in June? When is the French Camp the article was talking about?
Henry went 90 minutes against Greece in a 1-0 win. Massey projected a 99% win probability and a 5-0 win.
The French play such a beautiful game, moving the ball all over the field with grace and elegance, but when it's time to finishing the deal they fail in epic fashion. They hit the post countless times and had numerous good looks in front of the goal. If they ever find 1 player that can finish they would be the best team in the world and there wouldn't be a close second place.
Amandine knows enough English to find the toney Portland City Club for dinner. She tweeted this picture from the 30th floor. mt Hood in the Left Distance.
OMG who are the commentators from the chicago match....painful. while they are smart, how about a little commentary on what's actually happening. do they even know who's on the pitch or who wears what number?
With the arrival of Henry, someone was going to lose her starting position. Dagny was the obvious one.
It looks to me that Dagny went out of the starting lineup when Henry arrived. Based on my observations of games prior to then, this is what I anticipated. Dagny has some strong points, of which her heading ability is a very big one both on set pieces near the goal and on goal kicks. On the other hand, her technical skills are not great. She's a good player, and a great one coming off the bench.
really surprised to hear this. sounds upside down. messes with my assumptions - like...international players are generally very technical.
From my perspective in the other side of the field, I'd qualify that. She has some pretty obvious strengths which you can't teach. She is very strong in the air, she has good defensive skills for a player I expected for be a forward, and she has pretty good positional skills as a forward. She doesn't match other players on the team in great footwork, and she doesn't have break-out speed. And yes, considering the propaganda about technical skills, I think you have to consider that the best USA players have competed well in Europe, including some of the players on the Thorns she is competing with.
Going tonight to see Danielle Foxhoven coach college soccer. Her team, Univ of Purdue NW will be playing Robert Morris College in Arlington Heights, IL. Any of you Portland fans want me to say Hi! to her for you?
