I think the point is that if the Dems play nice, the Reeps will play nice, which doesn't seem to correspond with the evidence at hand.

Haven't the Dems been trying to play nice with the Reps for the 20 years or so since their hard turn to obstructionism when "Contract with America" was created?

I would say OK, except 2016 was a flipping disaster, because the GOP not only got a free Supreme Court seat but the voters who wrung their hands about how they don't like partisanship, and why don't those people in Washington just talk to each other, rewarded the GOP bigtime for its behavior.

It's not that I have wished to smother the American voter for the past 44 months .... oh hell, of course I have. Damn right I have.

A little more than 5 months, she has to hold on for a little over 5 months.

I caught a little bit of Sanjay Gupta on CNN yesterday, saying the meds she's now on are palliative only and average expectancy for patients taking them is 12 months. but that's the average. she has a much worse-than-average health history and is 87 ...

we can guess what the first question is that McConnell asks when he wakes up every day.

The McConnell Rule = "Because we can" End of justification for court packing. 1) Barack Obama. If the whine 2) Michelle Obama.

If the GOP were to replace RBG before January 2021, and Biden were to win, that would be interesting. Biden's instincts are to be Neville Chamberlain, assume the best of the other side and negotiate expecting decency. But few Dem voters would support such a stance if the Republicans pulled that Supreme Court trick. Not even I would fall for that, and I'm normally an establishment, bipartisan-style Democrat.

McCain returned it temporarily with the ACA vote. And a big vote that was. But yeah, gone again, Mitt excepted.

After this story came out, it really felt like it was leaked for attention and some sort of panic much like the last story about the health of a Justice.

You're coming off as increasingly centrist. They have the SCOTUS because they play dirty. We're nice, and we're finishing last.

Wrong. It is not about playing nice, it is that if the Dems go low, the Reps will go lower, and do worse.

Imagine the dems put 2 more on the court to favor. Great. The Reps will put 6 more on top of that, make them young, and the Dems will be ********ed from getting any possible SCOTUS ruling for 50 years, or more.

The 800-lb gorilla is that they play dirty, and they have the Court for the rest of our lives, likely.

If you were playing soccer and the other team just picked up the ball with their hands and ran with it, you'd be upset. When the ref was completely fine with their "interpretation" of the rules, you'd be livid. And when they scored their 15th goal on you, you'd be murderous. But at some point, you're gonna pick that ball up with your hands too.

Again...doing so requires the presidency and both the house and the senate.

Which in free and fair elections is all but impossible for Republicans. Free and fair elections also require a non partisan hack fest on the Supreme Court.

you do this now...and re-challenge citizens united, voting rights act etc there will never be a Republican majority. Or if it happens, it will be so far in the future, and so far removed from today’s party, that it may not be a bad thing.

but if they nominate and confirm a Republican right now, after pulling the shit they did with Merrick Garland...you absolutely have to pack the damn court if you get the chance.

this court has already done significant damage to our democracy. Allow them to swing even further and what you fear has already happened.

You are assuming that the defenders are doing what? One thumb up their ass and one in their mouth? Sure, a studs up tackle to the knee or even a rugby tackle is out of bounds, but the basic tenet of soccer is that players do not play with their hands (goal keepers excluded). You ******** with that, and it no longer is soccer.
