I would like to thank everybody on BigSoccer, myself especially, for the important role we played in the defeat of George W. Bush. The good liberals on BigSoccer set a shining example of sophisticated, cosmopolitan, and intellectual behavior and analysis that paved the lighted way for the masses to follow. Give yourselves a mighty pat on the shoulder. You deserve it!
I swear, if it turns out that this post jinxes the election I'm going to take your head in one and Mike Lastort's* head in my other hand and bash them together as hard as I can. And I'm not normally a violent person. *Lastort is gleefully predicting that DC United will bring home the MLS Cup. That's some bad gris-gris.
BREAKING NEWS NOV. 3, 2004 - It light of the fact the Democratic Party is without a recognized leader as a result of yesterday's election, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton announced this morning the formation of an exploratory committee to review a possible run for the now wide open 2008 Democratic presidential nomination...
Ok, ok, I'll stop the predictions of winning the Cup. I haven't bought my tickets to LA yet, because that would be tempting fate far too much, even by my standards.
I can't wait 'til Tuesday. Wait - 'TIL TUESDAY?! That reminds me of a song! Flush Bush Kick him out now Vote for Kerry Oh, oh, oh
I guess Lastort will be sorely disappointed twice in 12 days as Bush wins, then the Wizards thrash United in MLS cup.
[rhetorical] The Southwest is an odd place for a Republican candidate to go to on the eve of election, isn't it? [/rhetorical]
I keep telling you, you're not outnumbered. 57 million Americans are just like you. This is what America IS. Or are you submitting that this is how you feel at BigSoccer? Well, football's a world sport. I'm not surprised that a worldview, and not exclusively an American one, gets reflected. It's the opposite wth the election, see?
Maybe instead of becoming self-congratulatory and pre-ejaculatory we should remember that we are all Americans and we are all in this together. Lets move on here in Big Soccer and continue discussing current events. Hopefully now that the election is over we can do so without all the partisanship. Gloating should be beneath us. Lets be conciliatory. I am sure that is exactly what Gringo Tex and the others would have done if the shoe was on the other foot.
I was trying to take a page from Rove's bandwagon book- man did that backfire. No- I would have laughed at you and kicked your mother.
My mother? Hey, be careful. I try to be conciliatory, but not Mom. She'll beat the shit out of you and then make you eat it.
So, 54 million Americans, and the sentiment they represent, in a time of preventive war, should just go along to get along because they've lost? Yeah, THAT'S how you got the damn nation in the first place!
Yes, I think so. Of course the debate over issues should continue, but without the ugly partisanship which is not issue-oriented but power-oriented. We should put aside the fact that we are red or blue, and remember we are red, white and blue.
That's simply not reflective of the reality. I disagree with this administration on EVERY SINGLE POLICY INITIATIVE they have. How can I accept this clear mandate? This acceptanceonly works when the two sides are operating in the same universe; that is not the case here, the electoral map over the last four years in part reflects this. No, there will be no abdication. There may be an acceptance of the process, but never, by many, of the man or of the cabal. I know I never will.
