Not YNT-related, but I took a look at my "MLS-Era U.S. Double/Treble History" tracker which, regardless of MLS Cup winner, will finish with no double in 2018 after Atlanta knocked NYRB out of the playoffs. Kind of interesting that nobody has won MLS Cup/USOC in the same year since 2005 San Jose. (Well, 2017 Toronto won the Canadian Cup, kind of making them semi-treble winners, but I'm not counting that.) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XuS2Dhd_yz77wXuouRt19lsmkPz4wQwyXb1PLh25aGk/edit?usp=sharing
Thanks to @Matthew Hartman who gave me permission to post this spreadsheet. @Dave Marino-Nachison, can you add this to your master sheet? “USMNT Prospects 2019 Cycle.” https://t.co/uxmjBsOzb3
Sure. It looks very interesting and comprehensive, but there's a lot going on there. Can you or @Matthew Hartman post a short explainer on everything that's being tracked here (or point me to one if it's already been done) for people like me who are a bit slower on the uptake?
This is awesome work, perhaps the most comprehensive YNT pool I've seen. Here are some updates I'd suggest to @Matthew Hartman, mainly for nationalities. I'm sure I'm missing more. Olympic/U23 Djordje Mihailovic: Serbia Felipe Hernandez: Colombia Other names to add: Jonathan Suarez, 1997, Queretaro, W, Mexico. He's gotten first-team action and should definitely be an add at least as a Long Shot. Since he's a decently skilled left-footer and can play the #10 in addition to LW, I might say bordering on a Coin Flip. Stephen Payne, 1997, Varzim, W, Nigeria. He's a Long Shot. U20 Jonathan Amon: Nigeria Sebastian Soto: Mexico (and Chile, if you want) Frankie Amaya: Mexico Nick Taitague: Puerto Rico Nico Defreitas-Hansen: Denmark (and Brazil, if you want) Justin Garces: Venezuela Stuart Ritchie: could get into the U20 conversation as a left back Justin Butler: never been with Germany, only USYNT (still a longshot) Jalen Hawkins: was at a lone Germany U15 camp a few years ago and since has been only with USYNT (still a longshot) Lucas Ordonho: never repped Brazil, only USYNT (still a longshot) Other names to add: Manuel Lopez, 2000, Santos Laguna, F, Mexico. He's done well for the US U19s, and thus should be added to the U20 pool as a Long Shot. Cameron Harper, 2001, Celtic, W, has some type of EU passport. Might be a Long Shot. He's represented only USYNT. Those on BigSoccer who saw him play with Pateadores rate him well. Julian Vazquez, 2001, Real Salt Lake, F, Mexico. Recently signed a homegrown contract. Repped USYNT initially, but has flipped to Mexico. Erik McCue, 2001, Houston Dynamo, CB, Sweden Jordan Adebayo-Smith, 2001, Lincoln City, F, England Joao Lucas, 2001, Internacional, F, Brazil Ilan Sauter, 2001, FC Zurich, CB, Switzerland Yannick Scheidegger, 2001, Grasshopper Club Zurich, AM, Switzerland Teun Van Der Donk, 2001, FC Basel, defender, Netherlands Mateja Milasinovic, 2001, Partizan Belgrade, CM, Serbia Matko Miljevic, 2001, Argentinos Juniors, DM, Argentina (repped USYNT but flipped) Matias Bentos-Pereira, 2001, Montevideo Wanderers, W, Uruguay Armando Shashoua, 2000, Tottenham, AM, England Max Rugova, 2000, Nuremberg, F, Kosovo (repped USYNT but flipped) Nicholas Gioacchini, 2000, Caen, F, France Jens Cajuste, 1999, FC Midtjylland, DM, Sweden U17 Damian Las: Poland Ricardo Pepi: Mexico Axel Alejandre: Mexico Mason Judge: England Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez: Mexico Adam Saldana: Mexico Peter Stroud: England Moses Nyeman: Liberia Beni Redzic: Bosnia & Herzegovina Tyler Taber: Japan Sebastian Burke: never repped England, only USYNT (still a longshot) Other names to add: Jonathan Gomez, 2003, FC Dallas, FB, Mexico. One poster on BigSoccer who's watched him closely has him as the top LB prospect in the system other than Bello. He was on the preliminary roster for the Nike International Friendlies but did not make the final roster. Rowan Browne, 2003, AB Gladsaxe, FB, Denmark. Might be part of the Long Shot pool, as he's a left back in Europe who's only represented USYNTs. Kevin Bright, 2003, Milan, CM, Italy Patrick Leal, 2003, Sporting CP, F, Portugal Bryan Okoh, 2003, Lausanne-Sport, CB, Switzerland Kevin Malone, 2003, Augsburg, GK, Germany Fernando Alvarez, 2003, Pachuca, FB, Mexico (repped USYNT but flipped) Santiago Munoz, 2002, Santos Laguna, F, Mexico Not sure if we would add Diego Letayf and Nico Carrera to the list yet, but it's unclear if they have citizenship. As two of the top '02 CM and CB in the DA, they would be in consideration if they do. U15 Other names to add: Robert Deziel, 2005, Union Adarve, CM, Spain Cameron Johnson, 2004, Boca Juniors, F, Costa Rica Donovan Palomares, 2004, LAFC, GK, Mexico Abel Salazar, 2004, Pateadores, F, Mexico Diego Ceja, 2005, LAFC, AM, Mexico. Won the Golden Ball at the U13 CONCACAF CL; seems to be in the Alvarez/Mendez mold. Luke Van Heukelum, 2005, Sockers, F. 72 goals in 41 games for them so far. Seems to have incredible leadership/character as he narrowly avoided a cancer diagnosis and since has been raising funds for child cancer patients. Christopher Thaggard, 2005, ISL FC (Queen City Mutiny), F. 112 goals in 76 games for them so far. Dylan Tellado, 2005, SJ Earthquakes, W, Spain. 58 goals in 33 matches for SJE so far. Miles Mukherjea-Gehrig, 2005, SD Surf, F. 57 goals in 33 matches for SDS so far.
It's an overview of each of the player pools with the players tiered by how important I, and some of the other guys at Scuffed HQ, think they are to their age group. I just don't have a good enough grasp of the u15s to tier them yet, so I'm tracking their call-ups. The combined stats page is tracking where the players in our pools are coming from, it pulls data from the other pages. As @ChuckMe92 has pointed out, some of the info is incomplete. I generally don't add second nationality until I can confirm it with the player or club.
I've been working on a player pool spreadsheet that tries to do everything - it's becoming a little cumbersome and overwhelming. I'm still keeping it up, though. I thought it might be useful if anyone wants to piggyback off the data. Here's the link, and here's what it's got: - Player value from Transfermarkt - Overall rating and potential from SoFIFA - Dual nationality - State of birth/hometown (for those interested in creating teams based on the 50 states) - Eligibility (filter to see player pools for U23, U20, U17, etc.) - Past national team history - Callups for current cycle, including YNTs - Appearances and minutes from MLS and USL (2018), CCL and Development Academy (current)
This appears to possibly be the holy grail of US Soccer spreadsheets. Accurate dual-nat info. And up to date, too, even for something as minor as fringe US U17 Sebastian Falsone's recent move to DC United from Virginia Development Academy. Awesome work.
Some abroad-based youngsters you can add to your awesome spreadsheet. 2002: Will Moravek, Fulham (as of August 2018) 2003: Ralph Orquin, Club América (left back who not only appears to be one of CA's best U15 players, but also follows USMNT stuff on his Instagram. One of the top 2-3 US prospects in the Liga MX system right now) 2004: Joel Imausen, Hertha BSC 2005: Thomas Hudson Davis, Espanyol 2005: Grayson Dettoni, Bayern Munich 2005: Belmar Joseph, Paris Saint-Germain (as of July 2018) 2005: Mansour Ouro-Tagba, 1860 Munich 2005: Ruwan Thoumong, Wolfsburg 2007: Bobby Kelman, Southend 2010: Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., Juventus 2012: Amir Omidiji, VV Baronie
Sweet! I added all but the last two (had Belmar already, thanks to you guys). Like to see 'em at least hit double-digits before they become a data point. I'm assuming Bobby Kelman is Charlie's brother. It's been exciting to follow Charlie's rise at Southend.
Bobby would have been eligible through his American father anyway but he was also born in Texas, unlike Charlie.
Requesting help on my spreadsheet posted earlier... life is getting busy and I am not able to manage it anymore. I simplified it by removing the 50 states and DA stat columns.
I doubt anybody but me cares about this, but anyway I'm open to your opinion. So, I track MNT callups by YOB. Here's the latest version: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17xb1g8Jd2bWrXU4g3fXX1aC4A3EQcKYir1ZtHXXGoT8/edit?usp=sharing (There are tabs at the bottom -- the current stuff is under "Berhalter 2022.") So, how do I track the weird summer camp that included some Gold Cup provisional roster guys, some U23s, and ... Emerson Hyndman? Are they all part of the MNT pool? Was the whole thing just one big asterisk? Did I dream it? Etc. Ultimately I'd like this particular sheet to be a useful tracker of whatever Berhalter considers his pool to be. I guess it's plausible that he sees Hyndman as part of it. But what about, I dunno, Andrew Thomas?
I would say players called into camps are clearly part of the pool even if they aren't played in the games that go with a specific camp. In that sense I think it makes sense to count Hyndman as an "official" callup. I'm a little less certain about the U23 guys called in recently for mixed camps.
That makes sense and would be a reasonable approach. My only comment is that if you have to make subjective decisions on each camp (even if those camps are not frequent), there will invariably be errors on both sides of your decisions. If you set a standard, at least you know the errors will be more consistent. Either way, they will sort themselves out after a period of time (either they will be called again or they won't).
Hmm. On the one hand, I'd hate for people here to find out I'm not perfect. On the other, if I don't get to make subjective decisions, where's the fun?
This is quite amazing work, and so comprehensive! Have you input and maintained all of this information manually, or are you using any automation / tricks to help?
I haven't used any automation or tricks up to this point, but I know there are many that would be incredibly time-saving!
I want to work with you on this, just can't look into it in a lot of detail RN. I'm at work. But I got your message, I'll get back to you ASAP! Awesome work!!
I don't know who this person is (perhaps it's one of you) and this isn't a super-exhaustive multi-hundred YA database, but it's still darned useful, so I'm adding it... Not sure how this fits in, but I’ve been tracking the value of players in the USMNT pool and the top 20-30 prospects in a spreadsheet. Updated quarterly. Here’s the link. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oQED41u_dNZYsduRjJvjdqax5BXrk09k0FF5AWj88XI/edit?usp=sharing
