I wouldn't mind singing a song that had absolutely nothing to do with soccer (similar to West Ham's "Forever Blowing Bubbles" or Newcastle's "Blaydon Races").

Maybe Kirk Urso's favorite song, or basically anything everyone knows the words to (yet unique).

It is weird that no one has picked up Sloop John B yet seeing as everyone sings it now in England. West Brom did a hilarious, albeit pretty tasteless, variation on it against Wolves last season. "The baby's not yours, the baby's not YOURS. Oh Jamie O'Hara. It's Adebayor's!"

The only thing about Sloop John B is that unless you change the words a lot, like the West Brom example, it is mainly a song for away supporters.

Did anyone ever come up with a Renteria song to Sublime's Santeria? Seems pointless now since he'll probably be off this winter. But that would've been a natural one. "I don't pass to Renteria. Cuz he can't handle the ball. If I had a million dollars, well I'd buy Higuain."

    Feeeederico Hi-gua-in

Well .. And I mean this comment not to offend you, but that chant does not seem to have taken hold.. I would posit that if it had, that would be the first chant out of our mouths after a goal like that from Gaven. I did not mean to leave that off the short list of lesser known Gaven chants, it just did not pop immediately in my mind. I mean Higuain already has a well known chant.

There's no such things as a "first chant" for a player that's not their name in 4 beats, is there? :(

I am not sure what you are saying.. A lot of negatives in that question. I suppose I was trying to say that Gaven deserves a chant to a different beat than Ed.die.gav.en clap clap clap.

And I'm merely saying that there's no amount of creativity or will that will overcome the ingrained sheep bleat that is ed-die ga-ven clap clap clapclapclap.

I don't see why that would offend me. BUT that chant has "taken off." I think this past weekend is the first time I remember it not being used after an Eddie goal in the past 2-3 seasons. And I think that was due to the fact that the last second drama just sent people in a delirious state, and they were incapable of organizing a thought, let alone a chant.

It was never my favorite chant, but people seem to like doing the "la diddy da daaaa daaaaa" bit. Get it going next home game. People will join you.

Wow. So you are saying that if I started a chant, then people would join? I do not believe it.

So, here we are, less than 2 weeks 'til our 2013 home opener. Are we destined for yet another season sans new songs in the Nordecke? There's no denying the atmosphere has begun to level out since the high that was 2008. IMO, we peaked as a section at our final match in CCS that season (vs. Chicago), but it's been slowly downhill from there. Over the past 2 seasons, I've noticed many people above the first 10-15 rows fail to get involved with the corps of the group, or even sing at all. It's worrisome. I don't want us to go the way of the Midnight Riders in New England.

Timbers Army, the premier in-stadium supporters group in MLS, have introduced 2 new songs this season (http://timbersarmy.org/game-day/chants). What are we doing? If the answer is nothing, then prepare for yet another season of 30 second songs, "you suck a**hole!" and silent minutes 46 - 60 (until people return from their halftime cigarette break and concession binge).

As far as creativity goes, I'll admit I have nothing new at this time. But, I pledge to sing my frickin' heart out every minute I'm in the Nordecke. So, start a new song, and I'll join you.

I *********** hate YSA. It grates me all most as much as the nazi ref chant.

That makes me remember the years long campaign Zip went on to banish that chant.

We got this to work over at 4th Street towards the end of the season, and had limited success getting it going in 101, but I don't think it made it across the Nordecke much. Hopefully it will this season.

Same goes for Africa. Its belted out several times a day at 4th. We got it going a tiny bit in 101 but never beyond.

I think it helps that we had a few away weekday games last year and viewing parties were followed by karaoke night at 4th Street so more people learned more of the words (including a great rendition where Frankie joined the Crew Union officers on stage).

Can't link to it from work, butI think/hope this one's clear enough:

    We don't need no Colorado
    We don't need no Montreal
No Shitcago Fire in our stadium
    Portland, leave our boys alone!

Hey! [Insert team] leave our boys alone!
