Just a reminder, this thread is meant for Philly posters to go all-out NegaDelphia on the stadium/team news. The more sarcastic, the more cynical, the better.
Well since the PA Senate will probably wait to vote on the economic redevelopment bill until the Spring, I'd say we're pretty much screwed.
"Many a true word..." Attending the PC yesterday, I DEFINITELY got those vibes from the City and County Fathers and Mothers, though there was nothing explicit. We are skirting this issue on several threads, and nobody has really had the nerve to confront it directly, but in the future...
Don't worry about it - MLS is never going to pass on the Philadelphia name and the 4th largest market it brings with it. Potential advertisers are not going to work with DelCo If you're putting your company's name on a jersey, do you want it to be a Philadelphia team or a DelCo team. All that matters is what name will sell better - and that is Philadelphia.
The state will be able to F*ck this up somehow... We do live in philadelphia so nothing ever goes our way.
But fortunately the stadium is in Chester, so maybe luck is on our side. I can't believe I just said that.
We're screwed. Global warming will melt the ice caps. The Oceans will rise. The Delaware will rise. Chester will be Atlantis. We will have to start all over with a proposed riverfront stadium in Media. (Just trying to get this thread back on the right track.)
You forgot all the stuff in the middle like late season collapse, the star player who performs poorly then gets traded and is MVP of the cup, etc etc etc. I like your doomsday scenario. Warms my heart.
I should have made it clearer... this scenario happens in the three days before our first match under the bridge.
I just noticed that the PA Senate is in recess until 11/13. With Garber's speech on the 14th or thereabouts, I'm starting to get the knot in my stomach again, and not the knot of excitement.
I realize you are trying very hard to be depressing, but you blew it with the "With Garber's speech on the 14th or thereabouts" comment. Try the 16th, when they have Board of Governors meeting and press conference. 3-4 days is plenty of time. I almost feel like moving these posts to the Gay-Fluffy-Bunny thread.
i really do want an mls team here, but with global warming, do we really want the stadium right next to the current waterline??
it's a 7 foot rise from the river level to the ground where the stadium would be built...my old office was in a similar location and didn't flood during a day when everything flooded (some hurricane 8 inches of rain)
