I wonder why ........ hopefully not something bad, maybe his old lady is just homesick. If he does make the WC roster, I'd think they could sell him on to some other country, maybe England, they fancy a good American keeper now and then.
Coming back here can't be the best thing he could do career-wise.

    Re: Troy Perkins

If his contract is up soon, it may just be a negotiating tactic for a better deal.

Kids? Ages? Maybe they want their kids to grow up in the US.

Is he worth a king's ransom to us?

    Re: Troy Perkins

My guess is that Nowak's price will be either Jakovic or Pontius. In other words, he'd probably want what he considers to be our best player.

Is that a price that we'd want to pay?

Wanting is free. I want a lot of stuff I'll never get.

If we give up either Pontius or Jakovic for any goalkeeper I'll shoot myself. There are many options for goalkeepers that don't involve surrendering a building block of the team.

Now you're going to ask me who. I can't answer, except to say that as an example, Cronin came in and did an excellent job. The extra value that Perkins MIGHT provide isn't enough to warrant giving up a cornerstone of the team.

Matt, enough with the shooting yourself. The correct answer is that you will shoot anyone responsible for trading J or P for Perkins.:D I, too, would like Troy back, but not at any cost.

Pondering this throughout the morning, I agree with you.

    Don't shoot me.

If it comes to this make sure you don't do the shooting in DC. While it will be easy if this trade goes down to convince a jury that the shooting was justified, you'd still have the unregistered weapon charge to deal with. ;) :D

Then I'd probably have to deal with a Philly Union fan living in my house.

I want Troy back but not at the price of Pontius or Jackovic.

Then Nowak's an idiot, given the moves he's already made to stock his team with solid keepers.

    And Nowak isn't an idiot.

Wow! I think in all my years this is the first consensus I've seen on BS.

(other than those involving character traits of some posters.)

But...but...but...what if he didn't KNOW that Troy wanted to come back when he stocked his team with solid keepers. What if he's now smacking his forehead and saying, "dammit!! I'm an idiot!! If I had known that Troy was coming back, I wouldn't have gotten those keepers?"

    It could happen.

    Re: Troy Perkins

What Matt said. There are enough quality GKs in the USA that we shouldn't have to use an allocation (or worse - trade Pontius/Jakovic) on Perkins. Personally, I would go with Kocic/Hamid before I'd give up a quality outfield player (or two) to Philthadelphia.

Depends what we have to give up to get him. We've got the salary cap space.......and I'd take him as my starter over Kocic any day of the week.

    Re: Troy Perkins

On the Yanks Abroad forums there are posters suggesting that his wife has had difficulty getting a job over there. She's a pharmacist if I remember correctly.

According to another Norwegian poster, he's listed as making ~300k with Valarenga.

By the way, there's a nice Perkins tribute video on page 9 of that thread.

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65927&page=9

    Check it out.

As I said, it just depends what we'd have to give up to get him. I have no idea who's ahead of us on the allocation list other than Philly.

    Re: Troy Perkins

If Nowak has Seitz as is starter we may be able to get Perkins for a decent deal. Like McTavish and a 2nd rounder next draft? Maybe give up Burch?

I just dont want wicks back.

    Re: Troy Perkins

We're a Conference rival. No way would Philadelphia spend their allocation only to trade the player thus obtained to us for very little (or, alternately, trade us the allocation), strengthening us while only marginally improving themselves at the cost of their allocation. If they don't need Perkins, they'll just pass and hold their place in the allocation order -- unless we offered something big (e.g. Jakovic or Pontius), which would be dumb.

I'd be happy to get perkins back, but given the small salary cap, i dont know if it be worth to drop the coin that perkins would be looking for coming back, i'd rather take cronin for his price.
