With the exception of the remark about not ever being a star player, I disagree. He is not clumsy, IMO. He works hard, yes, but not in a “bless his heart” left-handed compliment kind of way. For his size and strength is pretty quick and skilled, IMO. He presses. He gets stuck in. He is pretty durable. He needn’t be a star in the PL to be more worth of a call up than some of the attackers who get them.
An Italian saying goes, "una rondine non fa primavera." Because you see one bird out, it doesn't mean winter is over. Josh has to keep showing some improvement. As is, he's still just a hard-working dude in a relegation-bound club, likely to be a somewhat limited asset in the Championship. He has to prove the world wrong.
I just checked Mason Mount’s profile. He played both in Eredivision and Championship before back in Chelsea. Mount’s goal production is about 6-7 per season so far. See if Sargent can reach this level.
I would like to state my strong disagreement with the idea that Sarge would not be a very effective Championship player. So it is stated, so let the record reflect.
Whatever else may happen in his career, Sargent will always remember his time at Norwich fondly if only for that first goal. He should have a baby every week.
I don’t think he’s a clumsy player either. I personally think he could reach McBride levels if he can sort out his goal scoring.
Norwich has scored 13 goals in 21 matches… Josh is part of the problem. He is not “the” problem. They are playing significantly worse than I thought they would. I knew the defense would get hit, but thought they would at least play open football to score goals. That hasn’t happened and they are just bad. Mayyyyyybe the back half of the season will be better and we can see if Josh can net 4 or 5 more before the season ends
I think Dean Smith has affected the club at least a little. Not to make too big a deal of it, as it's not like they've one from route 1 to tika-taka, but the desperation of just trying to dump the ball to Pukki seems to have faded a bit... With the 6 recent points, it will only take a bit of "relative special" to stay up, but it will also take only the slightest of stumbles (relative to the others) to drop... I'm surprisingly (given how sure I was Norwich was toast) interested in seeing if they can pull it off.
Which is anatomically impossible. Mind you, not much more impossible than some posters thought it would be for him to score, so there's that.
In Norwich-related news, WAtford have hired Roy Hodgson as head coach, which is going to make the relegation battle much tighter. He has plenty of form in guiding sides to safety and, while it is very late in the season to be making changes, he took over at West Brom in February 2011 and they finished 11th.
With great apologies to your ears: We're REALLY serenading him now with his own custom song! 😍🦂🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/KiQmftwxfQ— Curtis & Conroy (@curtisandconroy) January 25, 2022
You, my friend, may have skipped certain aspects of biology and reproduction. There are a few pop music and sports stars I'd like to introduce you to who may beg to differ... Btw, American Soccer's Gritty is the best description of Josh I've ever heard. Thread title change NOW!
With women, they actually have the babies. With men, their women have babies. In any case, the Great Escape is on! The lowest number of points that a team has stayed up on is West Brom on 34 in 2004-05, but people are now wondering if 30 points might be enough this season. If it is - if - Norwich need 3 wins and 5 draws. As for Newcastle, they have the money to spend but image rights and similar issues make transfer deals hideously complicated so they could be running out of time to sign quality players. If they don't their run-in could kill them: the final five games include Liverpool, City and Arsenal, plus Norwich away and the lovely prospect of Burnley on the final day. Squeaky bum time indeed
Well, I will (somewhat ashamedly) admit to approaching that figure one year in my early to mid-twenties.
