and yet Germany are ones who get disgrace.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disgrace_of_Gijón

sure "unprofessional" but not cheating. Whereas all 2002 WC cheating swept under rug.

    Reason why
-FIFA made GS3 matches at same time is due to that Germany Disgrace of Gijon
-FIFA made it that no player can miss WC final after Ballack did in 2002 WC

I think was 3rd thing that Germany caused change in rules but I forgot.:ROFLMAO:

Oh, I clearly remember how Argentina were the clear favourites to win the 2002 World Cup. Couldn't stop laughing after their group stage exit.

Márquez is a surname. The proper Spanish equivalent is Marcos.

What made Germany's win all the sweeter in my mind was what Maradona said in the pre-game press conference, that Germany's win vs England was phony and that England merely let Germany win.

The Germans sure made Maradona eat his words.

There is a vid with Maradona's reactions live during all goals. Made it that much better.

-2006 WC made 3rd place with CB pair of Metzelder and Per
-2010 WC made 3rd place with CB pair of Friedrich and Per

anyway you slice, 2018 WC squad was more talented than a lot of past squads but couldn't get out of group with Korea, Mexico and Sweden......and have cemented themselves as our worst WC squad ever.

Not many people talk about the Kahn's finger injury just before the Brazilian scored. Most media at that time(almost everyone against Germany) seems happy about the defeat, they single handedly blamed Kahn as the real culprit, without even mentioning the finger's incident.

If he injured his finger he had to take responsibility and should've asked Völler to take him off. But his lizard brain and ego didn't allow him to do so. It's his blunder, not Ronaldo's scoring.

To be fair the 2010 side was defensively excellent - remember they had Boateng at right back as well, played a very low block with an effective double pivot then just countered with Mueller, Poldi, Klose and Ozil.

I do think it is also easy to overlook that they rode their luck at 1-0 - Argentina had a lot of good chances

It was a very talented Argentine side which Maradona mismanaged quite badly by having no connection between attack and defence - hence it was so easy to counter them

It's a WC Final, anyone will try to stay on the field as long as possible. And even without his blunder, Brazil will probably won the game anywhere, they're the better team.

First, then one cannot be upset that he got mild (at least in Germany) criticism for his blunders. Secondly, as a member in a team, it's not all about you, it's about making responsible decisions. One of the most basic and earliest lessons you learn is that the team's success is more important than your ego. Khedira had to miss the final just due to the chance of getting injured.

Brazil was clearly better but the game was decided by horrendous mistakes. Not all were made by Kahn as unfortunate incidences happened like the ref blocking a German player from passing twice which led to the goal. But the logic of "They would have won otherwise" is purely hypothetical and no excuse to remain on the field if you are injured.

Mats Hummels considers this the most important goal he's ever scored.
