The six (6) clubs with the most points in the 09/10 season (AP09 & CL10) will qualify to the Sudamericana 2010. For the first time since the creation of this tournament, both Boca Jrs and River Plate are not invited to the tournament and have to qualify thru their local tournament. After: CL10-F01: CL10-F16: CL10-F17: .
I haven't found an official AFA nor CONMEBOL pdf that states what I wrote, yet some websites do explain it like that: http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/futbol/copas?league=ARG.1 If you find anything, please let me know ... .
Apparently they don't, but it'd be rare that the champions of either don't finish in the top 6 of the seasonal overall. Of course there's been examples of the contrary, like Lanús in 08/09 who was first overall but didn't win either the Apertura or the Clausura.
After: CL10-F03: **Banfield and Argentinos Jrs have one game less as their game for Round 2 was suspended after 7'.
This table also comes to show how stupid is the whole concept of the average, if it wasn't for the average Huracán and Tigre would get relegated but nowadays they don't to worry thanks to the average, but on the other hand Tucumán and Chacarita are doing a bit better than them but are in serious shit. If Huracán and Tigre were to get relegated in the end of next season because of the average it means they would've been doing bad for two season in a row until they got relegated and that more or less affects the quality of the games. Also notice how interesting it's that Gimnasia and Racing's positions seem to be more or less the same with or without average.
CL10-F17: Interesting final 2 rounds for 3 teams fighting for the 6th spot for next semester's Sudamericana. Lanus, Velez and Colon are in the race for that spot. Velez has its head in the Libertadores (they play tonite and are 0-3 down to Chivas) ... which has distracted them in the last couple rounds. Lanus has recovered from their fiasco in the Libertadores and have benefited from Velez's distraction and Colon's poor form lately. Colon need to wake-up, thou it could be a bit late, but not impossible. It would be amazing if Colon still has still chances in the last round, as they host leaders Estudiantes in the last round. Games remaining for each: Velez: Chacarita and at Central Lanus: San Lorenzo and at Independiente Colon: at Godoy Cruz and Estudiantes Note how tight the top 5 teams are in the yearly totals. Imagine if it was a long-haul tournie like in Europe or 20 years ago? .
Yeah, they should go back to the old/traditional format IMO. The current system has its advantages if the league is dominated by 1 or 2 teams, but with this amount of parity, I don't see the need for an apertura-clausura system. Using the traditional format will also make relegation more interesting and fair. In mid-April we would have had 7 teams battling for safety, including River Plate p).
This is a mistake that many people makes, it could be like this but there's a better chance that it wouldn't happen, for one had it been a long tournament for example Banfield would have not won a title yet, if they had a shot when the second half begun they'd probably would've neglected the cup(if they would've qualified probably because the qualifying system would be different) and the first half would be played with less hysteria unlike the Apertura these days. Also the top 5 secured their spot on the Sudamericana what's left to see is the order. By the time being the clashes would be: -Argentinos vs. Lanús/Vélez -Banfield vs. Independiente -Estudiantes vs. Newell's
