Also, although the BBC story on the Bocanegra signing contained no such error, the caption under their photo of Boca said "Bocanegra starred for the States in the 2002 World Cup."

Umm.. OK. Bocanegra did star for the States in the 2002 Gold Cup, but that's not quite the same thing.

The BBC reports that a deal to bring Jamie Cureton to Rangers fell apart "at the last minute." According to the article, a supporter was set to pay Cureton's wages, but the deal wasn't completed because of a dispute over the transfer fee to be paid to Busan Icons. Based on earlier reports, I thought he was essentially released from his Busan contract and available on a free.

"We thought we were going to do that deal but it's off," Holloway admitted. "It doesn't look like we're going to be able to do that now."

With the possibility of needing to play Gallen some in midfield, another prolific striker in the Thorpe mold (isn't that what Cureton is meant to be?) wouldn't be a bad thing. Hope this works out in the end.

    QPR snap up Cureton

Queens Park Rangers have finally clinched the signing of Jamie Cureton.

A deal to sign the ex-Reading striker from Korean club Busan Icons collapsed earlier this week.

But a fee has now been agreed and 28-year-old Cureton, who played under QPR boss Ian Holloway at Bristol Rovers, will complete the move after a medical.

The transfer is being paid for by money raised by Our QPR, a fund-raising initiative set up by fans last month to help the cash-strapped club.

Holloway is also looking to sign Burnley defender Arthur Gnohere on loan for the rest of the season.

Gnohere had a loan spell at Rangers earlier in the campaign.

    Leeds for Carlisle

    http://www.qpr-mad.co.uk/news/loadnews.asp?cid=TMNW&id=140422

this is from Sky originally, and they're not the most reliable of sources to say the least, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were true; this would seem to be a very poor idea at the moment for QPR however, what with Shittu out and Olly seeking depth in defense, it wouldnt make much sense to sell your best remaining defender. Unless you were able to get a couple good defenders for the cash gained.

Like Langley, I think Carlisle's moving on is probably inevitable.

I'm not surprised that someone would be interested in Clarke, but I'm definitely surprised that Leeds would be linked with anything that'd cost money at the moment. Hopefully, we'll be able to re-sign Clarke to some kind of deal, even if it's one that is linked to promotion.

    Thanks for the link, Art.

A fee for Wes Daly had been agreed with Grays Athletic, but he didn't agree to personal terms. He made a late substitute appearance for Rangers on Satuday and now has been loaned to Grays for the rest of the season, with the agreement that he cannot be recalled during the length of the deal.

Richard Pacquette, now one further back in the pecking order after the signing of Jamie Cureton, has gone for a trail at Mansfield Town in Division Three with the prospect of a loan if they like what they see.

The local Times reports that Arthur Gnohere is near signing on a loan through the end of the year in a deal that will see him become a permanent squad member with a small fee if the R's are promoted and with a further fee if we remain up in Division One the year after. According to the report, all that remains for Gnohere to sign is medical clearance to determine whether a hamstring problem he's had has yet cleared up.

    (second article)

On a side note, former Ranger loan player Jerome Thomas, who has not played a league match since leaving Rangers, has now been signed by Charlton Athletic, who paid a 100,000 pound transfer fee to Arsenal, and have given him a contract through summer '06.

Great stuff there - Arthur is a solid defender. Hope the injury is not too troubling. Two bad hamstrings (McLeod) is something we could do without.

Dennis Oli has gone to Farnborough Town on a one month loan.

Former Watford, current Stoke City midfielder Richard Johnson is on trial with Rangers. His short-term contract with Stoke is about to run out and he'll stay with Rangers for a few days before the parties decide if he'll move permanently. No transfer fee would be involved as his contract with Stoke is about to run. He's available on trial now because he's currently on a red card suspension. He's made nine appearances for Stoke this season.

Ooo. we should have had him.

Playing CM4 and he was on loan to us and was performing well, so I bought him for £35k.
I'm now several years down the line but Jerome Thomas' value peaked at around £13m!

    Good lad in my book.

Richard Johnson (as discussed above) has signed a three-month deal with Rangers that'll see him with the R's through the end of the season.

...and, like the Cureton deal, the signing of Arthur Gnohere has been completed by Rangers!

A 2 1/2 year deal!! No fee now, but a potential fee to Burnley based on promotion and appearances.

He's passed a medical and is signed in time for tomorrow night's match.

Dave Davies said, "the funds have been provided by a fan and without his involvement, this deal would not have taken place. I cannot stress enough how grateful everyone at the Club is for this remarkable act of generosity."

The supporter wishes to remain nameless.

What a club we have, friends.

This was unfortunate timing, as he seems a decent young player for Spurs. Apparently played very well for their reserves the other night. Could have been useful to us at right back, but (hopefully) Edghill coming back into the squad we are covered there if Ty Forbes needs to move into the center of defence.

Well, anything that stops the jitters and nosebleeds that we get from success, has got to be handy.
