    Couple of points

The UK has the best economy in Europe by far which is largely down to not being in the Euro.
Paris needed the Games more than London because of the slow economy compared to the UK.
Chicac is an idiot for what he says. He makes people dislike the French for what he says. Didnt he want the UK to give up a 33billion rebate when the EU give much more to the French than the UK!!!!!
London deserved to win just as much as Paris.
Im not sure how some of you can question the British bid. Just because it won does it mean they cheated. I suppose if New York or Madrid had won it they would of cheated aswell!!!!!

Ummmmm... Britain has as many people as France, yet it has a lower GDP. I don't know what "economic" signs you're looking at, but all Macroeconomic figures point to France having a better economy. Sorry bud.

July 7 (Bloomberg) -- Terrorist attacks in London may deepen an economic slowdown in the U.K., the world's fourth-biggest economy, crimping global growth prospects already threatened by record oil costs.

The last person a Frenchman blames is himself...

Its annoying I know. But you've got to get on with it. We would have accused the French of buying the bid if we had lost...

Both economies are plunging in the wrong direction anyway...

btw: Chirac just makes the French hate him and the government even more, anyway!

Sorry, I'll revise that.... Britain and France have the same GDP. England's is smaller than France and that was what I was thinking of. World Bank GDP Numbers 2004

I wouldn't consider 20% vs 80% as almost voting for Le Pen?

And, worst of all, it forced me to vote for Chirac  !

Something is broken in my heart since then. Montesquieu basicaly invented modern democracy and, 250 years later, we had the choice between a dangerous fascist and an incompetent crook.

Anyway, we didn't declare war to anyone in order to secure our cod reserves.

And you had Benny Hill, too, for whom you should be judged by international courts.

That's true, but at least 80 percent of people came to their senses after sending Jospin and the PS their message.

Well this must be the case of - He's English. Let's blame it on the subordinate bastard...

But quite clearly I can't say what the French mentality is. Because I'm not French. I was merely jesting at the very notion that they probably do...

From an English perspective of course....:D

He's the leader of the French BNP basically.

He won the first round of voting in the general election a while back and got to go head to head with Chirac for the final ballot.

The French were given two options basically.

Vote for a maniacal, insanely evil caustic leader, hell-bent on shaking and tearing the fabric of French society down to its core....

    or choose Le-Pen...

Unless you're a facsist, then I would say that everything is wrong with Le Pen.

I guess it's unavoidable that the French and English will fight over just about anything--"losing" or "winning" the Olympics does not mean anything profound about which economy, let along which nation, is better, sorry. And Paris doesn't need the Olympic games--nobody does.

    another article for your enjoyment:
    http://www.madison.com/tct/sports/general/index.php?ntid=7815&ntpid=2

"... John Lucas, a professor emeritus at Penn State University and a specialist on the modern Olympics, also sees the Games increasingly operating on two tiers: spilling red ink on taxpayers while pumping profits to selected developers and other insiders.

"In short, hosting the Olympic Games as an economic development strategy for the host city simply doesn't work in the vast majority of cases," he said. "On the other hand, individual entrepreneurs can make a great deal of money at the Olympic Games. Some, in fact, have become millionaires.""

I look forward to hearing Livingstone and Blair (who of course won't be around in 2012) justify the inevitable massive misuse of public funds and resulting white elephants in the name of the "Olympic spirit."

Old joke but still funny. I'm sorry I can't rep you for this (bloody machine keep repeating I need to spread).

And I should add that Brits repeatedly used piracy in their naval wars against us.

While, on the other hand, dashing, noble and adventurous freelancers chose to fight for us, under the banner of liberty.

Yeah. But who the hell cares about bootleg copies of Pirates of the Caribbean anyway?

Johnny Deep is simply not worth it...

It's important because the Caribbean babes are cute. We deserved at least the Bahamas and St. Vincent. Arrangements were possible for Jamaica and St. Lucie, though.

However, today, I wouldn't declare a war on England for this issue. It's not as important as cod.

Can you imagine Bob Marley speaking in French?

    No way....

The Jamaican English patois, is part of modern culture. The French would have just messed that up... "ah ouais, irie mon ami"

It would have put everyone off reggae for life!
