No hurt feelings allowed, that's why we have a rivalry thread Note: other teams normally include International teams, BUT if you guys want a EURO 2016 / Copa America thread as well, I'd be in favor of that. Let me know Carry on
@Matakos in 2013 without the high line we weren't conceding buckets either. 5 goals conceded vs Madrid in 2014. 5 goals vs Barcelona in 2015 and 2 vs atletico. That's 12 goals against in 6 games average of 2 per game. About half of those goals due to a high line. 2 goals per game can't be called a defensive masterpiece
Like I said Barca carved them up and should have atleast had 2 goals. Bayern carved them up in the second leg and should have been up 2-0 forcing Atletico into attacking. Real's attack is questionable which we all knew from their lackluster run through easy teams. The fact that Atletico loss to a poorly offensive team shows what they were. Lucky defensive team that parked the bus and hoped for a miracle. Aka 2012 Chelsea.
Wow. Okay. We just aren't going to agree here. You think Atleti got through on luck. I think it takes skill and discipline to play like that. If Atleti went out and constantly attacked us, they would've lost. They did what they had to to win. It wasn't pretty. It may not be the type of football we like seeing. But it's worked for them. They deserved to be finalists. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
@surgeon I'm actually worse IRL..... My real life anger has spilled into the boards... My Bayern board people can attest to my behavior changes over the past few years I used to be a pessimist but have evolved into a raving mad lunatic
As far as I'm concerned they deserve exactly what they got yesterday. They had every opportunity to go at Real and take the title. Instead they left it to PKs and loss. The ultimate opportunists got killed by their own strategy and it is pretty damn funny.
They deserved what they got, sure. But they also deserved to beat us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I honestly don't know who did [emoji28] But RM beat whoever was put in front of them, so I guess it's them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'll allow it, but the Rivalry thread would be a more appropriate place for that [emoji1] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hehe, thank you, it won't become a habit. Just hoping to wind up @Dhajj a bit. Btw, I agree with you on Atletico. They've done brilliantly with what they have and despite having their best players routinely bought by the EPL teams. Not everyone needs to play a certain style of football to deserve being in the final or to win... many different ways to skin a cat. There's quite a bit of tactics involved in what they do (their wing play, for example)... it's not pure defensive anti-football like Chelsea or some of the other EPL teams have played in the past. Anyway, It would have been horrific to lose the final to Atletico, of course, but if they had won it they'd have been worthy winners. I can only applaud Atletico and Simeone for their efforts, and hope they get a CL trophy in the near future (I don't think I can begrudge them beating Madrid also, after we've done them twice past 90 minutes).
Not here to troll your resident troll. But I do want to point something out regarding all this deserved vs. undeserved stuff. Atletico excel at suppressing the other team's strategy. ESPN, 4-4-2, zonal marking, all these blogs and tactics sites point to it. Every time Barca or Real play Atletico, we control possession up until we becomes physically incapable of doing it or lose steam. Last night's win shows us that we were not able to impose our style and allowed it to become a battle of attrition, which evens out the odds. As for Bayern, I would have imagined you guys going through with the flurry of attack in the first 45 minutes of the 2nd leg. Saul is a player that many across Europe have underestimated, and there was no solution there as he drifted between 10 and central midfield roles. Similarly, letting Koke and Gabi play their game is a risk. Muller's omission in the first leg, Alonso (we know this too well) and Boateng's speed issues, and attempting to outstretch the opponent and overload them down the wings all can be considered tantamount to serious tactical weaknesses. It was a razor thin loss of course (Alaba hitting the bar, etc), but this is something that we all have to accept in football. If there's anything we give credit to Simeone for, it's for making his team incredibly flexible, totally committed, and able to execute a plan focused around the denial of the opposition's initiative and winning by set pieces, occasional flashes of brilliance, and a classic cross-into-the-box approach. Pep has done a great job in Germany. However, with all due respect, winning the Bundesliga is different than Europe, and he does not have the ability there as Jupp Heynckes does.
A Real Madrid fan has a better perspective on the state of Bayern München than 50% of Bayern fans. Rep to you sir. You speak truth.
As far as CL goes pep has failed.... 0 goals in 3 straight away games is a joke, his away record is the stuff of legends... He has done many great things but his obsession with ONE style and his away records have screwed us in the CL.
Of the top teams in the CL their defense was middle of the road even though they were the only ones who played defensively. Real had a better defensive record than Atleti. Atleti: Scored 17 / Conceded 8 Real: Scored 28 / Conceded 6 Bayern: Scored 30 / Conceded 11 Barca: Scored 22 / Conceded 8
We conceded most of those goals when our central defenders weren't fit to play. 5 goals against in matches without them (Juve x4 and Atleti x1).
It's a credit to our players that we managed to get so far with no fit central defenders in the knock-out rounds.
