I already have a profile and even bought two shirts from the Darvi line (one which has already become my favorite shirt). But that thing about wannaball.com is pretty ****** cool.

Does Kelly Gray have anmore intentions of making a comeback? I mean isn't 28/29 a little young to retire???? Just curious.....

Lot's of athletes "retire" at 22, 23, 24, when they get cut and nobody wants them.

Well in a way its a failure but in others its not. I mean when you see France, England and Italy crash out pretty badly as well as Argentina today, the USA held their own. I mean they put up a good fight and won their group. Ghana only beat them in OT so they didn't beat them in regulation time. I do believe however, after 6 consecutive World Cup finals, they should (by now anyway) have an easier road to the quarterfinals......

They had to work way too hard to get that result for the first round. They get credit for the third goal against Slovenia and maybe they don't have to work so damn hard for the win against Algeria. But Bradley took a big chance with Rico in the Ghana game and Rico botched it for us, just like Claudio did in '06.

The US is one of the top 16 teams in the world, barely. But not one of the top 8.

I'll expect more from the US in the WC when they start winning in Azteca or other places down south...

Play Mexico in LA and win too.

    We're sheltered here in CONCACAF

Seriosuly, I do not understand those rankings. I don't think they mean much. Even though you saw Brazil lose to France in 1998 and lose out on the WC in 2006, they were always ranked #1. I have a feeling it will happen again, especially in the lead up to 2014. Do they deserve to be number 1 if they crash out in the quarterfinal? IMHO , no.....

As far as the USMNT is concerned, they need a center striker. I know other younger players will emerge but I don't see too mny on the horizion.

I thought Kelly grew up in San Jose and went to Leigh high school. Maybe he spent his earlier years in Palo Alto? Or maybe they just wanted to say Palo Alto to thrown in the Facebook reference and make it seem more "venture capital".

I have also read that he lived in San Jose and went to high school there. In Wikipedia it says he was born in Palo Alto, though, so that part sounds true. He probably moved with his family from Palo Alto to San Jose at some point.....

His best year was his first year with San Jose, he came in that year in 2005 and really played well. After that he seemed to drop off a bit in play. Part of it seemed like he didn't have a specific position, when he moved with the Quakes to Houston, Kinnear started playing him in various midfield positions as well as central and outside defense, but none of them really stuck. Anyway, it's good to hear the he seems to be doing well, leveraging his soccer and tech experience together.

Excellent. Great to have Gray back in the fold - San Jose native and social network dude and all that. It's the club, it's the club, it's the club.

I love how the FO is getting some of our "roots" guys involved in any position (FO,Coaching, etc) with the club.

Someone (my guess will be Kaval) did pay attention to J Moore speech: It's the club, the club, the club !

Major props to the FO for this !

Agreed, both for creating the position and filling it well. Kelly Gray has been a great ambassador for the Quakes in the community all along.

He seemed to be Frank's boy for a while. First in LA then w/ the Quakes. Why did he go from perennial starter to being out of the game completely?

Gray and Conor Casey and Nate Jaqua were a teriffic set of strikers at Portland at the same time (2000). Not a good year results wise for the Pilots (t6th) but those guys were good!
