I have to admit that when we had a kid and I was going to collegeTaco Bell was sometimes all I could afford.

Nothing’s cheaper than buying your own groceries and making your own food. Also healthier. OK it was a long time ago but I used to get by spending $20 on food (groceries) per week in college. No fast food, etc.

Now I’m trying to grow my own food as much as I can. I’m still cheap! Even cheaper.

 

I not sure you can make a taco less expensive than TB. I suppose if you bought all the ingredient en mass, made the shells yourself and could use it all before it went bad, maybe then.

Also you can catch TB from eating at TB.

 

I was pretty hardcore. Bought raw pinto beans and made my own refried, etc. And made a big batch of the stuff so it would last a while. Didn’t make my own tortillas but you could get a bag of 20 or something for a couple of bucks and that would last several meals.

 

Back in the day, very early morning actually, we'd have a belly full of booze and head straight to Naugles Mexican food & Burgers in Campbell on Hamilton Ave. It was the only place open at 2:00AM and if you had the munchies the food tasted fantastic. You paid for it later, but we didn't give a shit.

 

You get the no shit sherlock award for the day... Somehow, believe it or not - when I was raising a kid while working, going to school, and being in the national guard we didn't always have time to cook.

 

Not too into carrots, but I do grow a little. I have winter and summer vegetables, and I'd say it accounts for about 50% of my diet? Maybe. That might be pushing it. It's a hippie thing .

 

Yeah that too . We have 4 or 5 different fruit trees. Mixed results.

 

My asparagus beds are kicking out enough asparagus for my wife and I to have every night if we want. And we have beets, broccoli, cabbage, and salad greens as well.

Who knew the Kaitlyn thread would veer into organic gardening? Haven’t tried asparagus because it’s not my favorite. My staples this year were broccoli, cauliflower, snow peas, celery, and lettuce. I like winter gardens because you generally don’t have to water.

 

I actually like my asparagus a little crispy, I think it gives them a better flavor, so sometimes I cook them in the oven, or on the barbecue.

 

I don't use weed killer. Just gotta pull weeds every now and then. I limit where the water goes so that helps a bit. I don't have too much problem with bugs but with aphids this year on some stuff I blasted them off with water and that seemed to work.

 

You could try a homemade non-toxic weed killer made with vinegar, rock salt, and dishwashing liquid (works as a surfactant) to spray on weeds. Plenty of sources online for the recipe.

 

Same deal but we would go to Taco Bravo after gigs….super cheap refried bean burritos…when my buds are in town we still wind up there after drinking.

 

We did that too, any place that was open was OK with us....lol

 

I use Neem oil on my crops, doesn't hurt them a bit and it's not harmful to pets or children as long as they don't drink it straight from the bottle.
