There are no details I’ve been really close to the club the past couple of years and what really bothers me about the situation, is to know how hard everyone has been working. From the front office, to the coaching staff, the staff and the players everyone is doing their best. But grit is not enough. https://t.co/tunNZ95zct— Carlos Yustis (@CarlosYustisTV) April 22, 2024 Also everyone needs to know that the people in charge of the soccer operation of the @SJEarthquakes has been trying to invest and improve this roster…. But there’s reasons beyond them that have not made those signings possible. #CaliClasico https://t.co/cnjpSoLskJ— Carlos Yustis (@CarlosYustisTV) April 22, 2024
So it's pretty general, and scoped to "the last couple of years". So I don't think we can ascribe our lack of a CAM this year as due to lack of funds necessarily. That said, I've started to come around to the possibility that the lack of CAM / U22 signings this year is due to Fish turning off the spigot and saying something like - well, you get the training facility or a DP but not both or something like that. That would also explain Leitch's radio silence on the subject. He can't say that he's working on stuff when the money is not there, and he can't piss off his boss and say that the money is not there. So he has to just lay low and take the arrows that come his way. However, this is what doesn't make sense about this narrative. If the money is not there, why would CL still be working really hard on signing a DP CAM at this point? He would know that the money is not there, so it would just be an exercise in head banging against the wall. Maybe he is trying to go bargain basement and really struggling to find players in that bucket that would move the needle for us. But then we're not talking about "DP CAM", which is what Luchi said they were looking for, at least during preseason.
I really doubt that's the case, and I really doubt he would have said "there’s reasons beyond them that have not made those signings possible" if that was the case. Professional players will go pretty much anywhere they are being paid, like 20 of them went to the ****ing Colorado Rapids this offseason. We have news stories about Fisher's money issues and how he's trying to raise $500 million. We also know that the Quakes are one of the lowest spending teams and maybe dead last in all of MLS when it comes to paying transfer fees, which you usually need to do for the best players. Who knows for sure, but it's pretty easy to make an educated guess, or just apply Occam's Razor. Also everyone needs to know that the people in charge of the soccer operation of the @SJEarthquakes has been trying to invest and improve this roster…. But there’s reasons beyond them that have not made those signings possible. #CaliClasico https://t.co/cnjpSoLskJ— Carlos Yustis (@CarlosYustisTV) April 22, 2024 There are like a dozen replies to the tweet, and they probably don't know anything more than anyone else, but all seem to believe it's related to money and Fisher.
"San Jose DP 10 target" 🕵🏻♂️ MLS transfer window deadline is tomorrow. The latest I'm hearing...🌟 New contract for LA Galaxy star🟠 $$ details on Cincy's new U-22 forward❓ Players being discussed on trade market❌ Charlotte U-22 winger target, San Jose DP 10 target& more! https://t.co/hwW2nn1TXM— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) April 22, 2024 San Jose targets Championship midfielder The San Jose Earthquakes have targeted Millwall attacking midfielder Zian Flemming with their open DP spot but are yet to make an offer, sources briefed on the situation say. Flemming, 25, has seven goals and five assists in 44 Championship appearances for the club this season. Millwall has won three games in a row to lift themselves out of the relegation battle with two games left to play. The Quakes have had several targets for this open DP spot, most notably Carlos Vela, but haven’t gotten a deal over the line yet. On the field, San Jose has struggled mightily, with eight losses in their first nine matches, putting them bottom of the league.
Fleming's a "DP 10" who doesn't actually play as a 10 (as far as I can tell). But...details, details.
Probably because they sensed a rebuild and big time commitment from ownership...aka actual hope. I'm sure there are a few players on the planet who would knowingly endure the SJ dumpster fire and milk it for the money... we're so desperate....we've already suffered through enough heartless fair weather players.
Shades of Doyle telling us Pierazzi, (a lifelong Dmid with 1 career goal) would be the answer as an attacking central mid. "just because he played deep for his prior team, doesn't mean he can't play further upfield for us"....We still can't have a guy that actually plays ACM for another team...a freaking living breathing bonafide experienced ACM!!
The Quakes were connected to one proper attacking midfielder worthy of being their DP 10... How's Hernan Lopez doing for Godoy Cruz these days? More importantly how's the Argentine economy doing these days?
Well he was French, surely he’ll be creative! I didn’t think JBP was that bad a player but he was an 8/6, and even though he wasn’t a 10 either really I think we missed Baca.
Yeah he just wasn’t an attacking player but he defended pretty well and could make some decent medium-long passes.
Box to box midfielder, according to the Webster Dictionary (San Jose Earthquakes Edition), is a soccer player occupying the space in the middle who is not good at defense and attack at the same time. If you look up Attacking Central Midfielder, aka Central Attacking Midfielder, in the same dictionary, it will tell you it is an imaginary creature that only exists in fables and folklores.
He was miscast in the system we were trying to play, zero chemistry with Cronin, oil and water... it was a defensive mess...he was a freelancer.... but we were spoiled with Baca/Cronin, how well they meshed defensively.
All around 1 PPG... what PPG would the Quakes need to get from 0.33 PPG up to 1 PPG by Leagues Cup time? In 2023 4 coaches were fired before Leagues Cup. They are NYRB: May 8th1-6-4.82 PPGFire: May 8th2-5-31.1 PPGMiami: June 1st5-0-101 PPGTFC: June 26th3-10-61 PPG2024 NSC on April 22nd:1-4-3.88 PPGIt’s still too early. But that seat is getting toasty— Nashville SC Stats (@NSC_Stats) April 22, 2024
To be fair, leagues cup is a good time to get a new coach or interim coach time to tinker with the squad in his own way without regular season repercussions
What regular season repercussion? It’s over. Quakes would have to win 15 of 25 games going forward to have a prayer of qualifying for playoffs.
