http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8...additional-uses-instant-replay-2012-13-season Obviously not MLS related, but it's interesting that one of the traditional "big" sports in the US is going down this road. Does it add any legitimacy to MLS that they won't be the only major team sport with them? If the NBA goes this way, how long until the other leagues follow?
Its quite enjoyable seeing the american sports traditionalists flipping out over this after years of them ridiculing our sport for having jersey sponsors.
LOL, I know. Soccer was always going to be the first sport to make it semi-acceptable here, so it's almost a situation where NBA execs are probably secretly thanking MLS for breaking the taboo. Baseball, being the traditionalist sport that it is, will be the last sport to do this. Change happens eventually, but it takes forever in baseball.
I'd imagine the NFL may be a long hold out, just because it makes so much damn money it can pretend to be above such things.
Wasn't there some huge uproar over the proposal of putting ads on the sides of the actual bases? Not the top, but the long, thin sides.
For what it's worth, the WNBA has had jersey sponsors for awhile now, but not as long as MLS. I remember when the first WNBA team got a jersey sponsorship, ESPN media made a story out of how unprecedented it was in the US even though MLS had them for several years already by that point.
Heck when I saw this reported on SportsCenter last night the anchor said "That would be a first for North American sports". Wanted to slap him. Even if you don't think of MLS or the WNBA, the Mexican leagues have had them for years.
Actually no. Fritz Pollard and Bobby Marshall were the first black players in what is now the NFL in 1920. Pollard became the first black coach in 1921.
The CFL has also had them for years. The Argonauts at least have had them since 2002. This is from 2009.
Is it going to be a patch (like the picture above) or are they going to be like the ones on MLS jersey's across the chest (no number, logo, or city name).
Rockets could look overseas for some cashcow sponsor. Specifically Asia. NBA is like EPL with the ability to pull eyes from markets far away and can yield big sponsor bucks.
Seriously. I expect those doughheads to snub the CFL, WNBA, AFL, our beloved MLS and Mexico in general, but NASCAR is actually on their agenda. Golfers, too.
The mainstream sports media isn't great when it comes to covering NASCAR. There's a certain level of snobbish disdain when it comes to the sport.
I was somewhat taken aback during Wimbledon to see advertising on many of the outfits worn by the competitors. Even there? Okay, then the NBA is no big deal.
