Hi folks, I recently looked up the record of the German national team against other teams and I saw one interesting detail (it shouldn't be new for German fans): Germany vs. Hungary 11 wins 10 draws 11 losses 66:64 goals first match 04.04.1909 last match 06.06.2004 So we have 32 matches in nearly 100 years and it looks like the most equal record between two teams I ever saw. My question: are there other teams with similiar equal records against each other? Of course they should have played quite a few matches. Edit: Argh, stupid typo in the title.
Just had a look at England's records and the two most evenly matched are with Romania and Sweden, although neither are as close as Germany-Hungary. vs Romania Played 11, Won 2, Drawn 6, Lost 3, For 10, Against 10 vs Sweden Played 21, Won 6, Drawn 9, Lost 6, For 32, Against 26 Given that we have played Scotland over 100 times, the record is pretty evenly matched other than in goalscoring. Played 110, Won 45, Drawn 24, Lost 41, For 192, Against 169.
For Spain... Spain - Romania (first encounter: 1 November 1962) 15 matches played Spain 5 victories Romania 5 victories 5 draws goals: Spain 21, Romania 18 Spain - Argentina (first encounter: 7 December 1952) 12 matches played Spain 5 victories Argentina 5 victories 2 draws goals: Spain 12, Argentina 13
Argentina and Uruguay hold the record for the most international matches played between two countries. The two teams have faced each other 161 times since 1901. The first match against Uruguay was the first official international match to be played outside the U.K I dont know the results though
So you're saying that this was the first official game which was really international (as those before were all between UK teams). I don't know if my database is wrong, but I count 203 international games between Argentina and Uruguay. I guess they aren't all official. The first one was on May, 16th 1901 in Montevideo, Uruguay. Argentina won it 3-2.
Here are some more stats about the 203 Argentina vs Uruguay game I found in my data: Argentina wins: 93 Draw: 50 Uruguay wins: 60 Total goals scored by Argentina: 336 (1.66 in average) Total goals scored by Uruguay: 253 (1.25 in average) Largest Uruguay victory: Uruguay 5 - 0 Argentina (December 16th, 1959 in Ecuador during Copa America) Largest Argentina victory: Uruguay 0 - 6 Argentina (July 20th, 1902 during a friendly in Uruguay. It's actually the 2nd game between both teams). Games with the most goals scored: Uruguay 5 - 4 Argentina (July 13th, 1913 during a friendly in Uruguay) Argentina 7 - 2 Uruguay (October 1st, 1916 during the Argentine Ministry of Education Cup) Once again, I can't guarantee you that all games are official. They most likely aren't.
Netherlands - Switzerland (first match: 16-05-1920) 32 played, 15 wins each, 2 draws. Goals: 68 - 61 Netherlands - Hungary (first match: 08-06-1930) 12 played, 5 - 2 - 5. Goals: 24 -23. Netherlands - Czech Republic (first match: 16-11-1994) 9 played, 3 - 3 - 3. 11 goals each
I wondered about this record before the 1970's and after 1970's. I hacve a feeling it would one-sided either way.
Until 1959 (there were no games between Germany and Hungary from 59 to 1970): German wins: 7 draws: 6 Hungarian wins: 9 After 1970: German wins: 4 draws: 4 Hungarian wins: 2
Wow, that sounds nice, too. Especially the low number of draws. So it's like win or die between these two teams.
england v scotland .easy. oldest rivilary first played 1872, england 44 .scotland 41 .draws 24. 110 games played can`t be matched
Ireland & the Cook Islands have never beaten each other, nor lost to each other, nor drawn with each other. Should be worth a mention.
