I realize that I am out of the loop on most things Crew, but when did our nickname become "The Massive" ... I realize that Zak had the whole massive club thing in the 2000s and we have the "We are massive" chant... but... "The Massive"... do you pronounce The as THE a la THE Ohio State University...? http://www.mlssoccer.com/history/club/columbus
That article looks like an intern visited Wikipedia and not much more. How the hell is EVERY coach considered "notable"? I mean Timo *COULD* be "notable" in the fact that he was the first. Nee *could* be "notable" in the fact that he effed up the team and entire club culture, but those would be stretches of the imagination. (Ok. Andrulis was head coach for the 2002 USOC win, but some people might make a case that LA was tired after playing on the previous Sunday.)
Well, we are located in the same city as The Ohio State University and The Robbie Rogers used to play for us. Maybe they just thought it was a Columbus thing.
For the record, it's: The Ohio State University and Massive Columbus Crew (too big to be limited by an article)
Adding a "The" implies that people might be confusing it with something else out there. This is impossible because there has only been and will ever be only one MASSIVE.
And while we are on the subject - if Stanford's nickname is The Cardinal why is their mascot a tree? And note they are called The Cardinal, dunno.
Not sure about canary kits, but in the past I have heard many refer to our all yellows as the 'canary yellows'. To me its semantics after that. Now, "The" MASSIVE is just ridiculous!
Very common mistake Stanford is actually "Cardinal" after a color (THE gets put in there when announcers say it because it's akward otherwise). The previous mascot was "The Indians" but was deemed offensive which is why it was changed. Having a color as your team name tends to make it difficult to come up with a mascot and officially the tree isn't their mascot just that big cardinal colored S. The tree is the band's mascot.
You think a color is bad? How about having a pattern as your mascot? I present... the Sinclair Community College Tartans. TARTAN PRIDE!
Syracuse Orange. The Orange. Yummy, yummy citrus. Seriously, somehow they decided sometime in the last ten years that Irish Catholics would be grievously harmed had they continued their previous name. Or would it be Irish Protestants who would be irreparably offended? I can never keep track of the state of affairs in the Umbrage Wars.
Although they have DOOP, the Philly types are starting to tag along with U of Miami and speak about The U
When "The U" players do that during NFL introductions, it makes my blood boil. OSU players aren't saying THE Ohio State University to be cute. There are two, and only two, university/college institutions in the U.S. that have "THE" as official parts of their name: THE Ohio State University and THE Citadel.
