Looking forward to an upset against the Spanish giants. It still is difficult but doable. Come on Kashima.
1-3 loss, but I think they played an overall good match and were not afraid to try to play their own game and on their own strengths. The 0-2 goal was unfortunate and pretty much killed the game off, but prior to that Kashima had a couple of dangerous attempts and showed that they weren't there just to be dazzled by the big stars on the opposite half. Another good CWC for Asia, with Al Ain reaching the final and Kashima the semifinal, and I dare say that Asia should soon be considered the 2nd best continent for domestic football. South American teams haven't done much the last couple of CWCs, and the rest of the continents seems to be way behind.
The post game interviews of the Antlers players were pretty shocking. They said they were completely demoralized that they were being tooled around like kids by Real. Abe Hiroki and Ucchi were crying after the game because the match made them both questioned their entire career. Shoji Gen said he was pissed that RM was just goofing around but he couldn't do anything to stop it. I think that's about the most raw, emotional post-match comments I've heard from Japanese players.
Sure, Real was the by far better team, but how they describe it here is not really how I saw the match. And Ucchi has beaten Real Madrid before at Bernabeu, and also beaten teams like Arsenal and Inter at venues like Emirates and Giuseppe Meazza with Schalke so that doesn't make sense at all. And if you think you have wasted your entire career just because you are not playing for Real, Barcelona or Bayern you are probably better off retiring anyway. That's an insult to 99,98% of all the other professional players in the world, and also a major insult to fans. Especially Kashima Antlers' own fans. Maybe after 0-2 Real were goofing around a bit, but up until that horrible back-pass by Yamamoto (?) they were playing well.
I'm surprised Gen said that! With that mentality, he really needs to step it up if he seriously wants to succeed in Europe.
It seems those traumatic remarks post Real Madrid match have managed to affect the team in today's humiliating loss. Very unfortunate.
Today the whole conmenbol needed to revenge what happened with Al Ail and Antlers were the chosen victim. That's all. Mission accomplished. Now come back to your shitty Libertadores and never show your thug faces again.
Well... at least put up a fight not easily give up. Anyways good showing by Asian teams Al-Ain and Kashima in this edition. 2nd and 4th places respectively, not bad.
I'm not blaming Antlers, River Plater thugs did at least 3 red card tackle and nothing happened. This match was planned to reclaim conmenbol place in fifa after their totally unexpected defeat against Al Ail as to say "you afc idiots don't try again to make us embarrassed". This was shit. Antlers was unlucky too with the gk change (why the hell the second choice must be an old dude as Sogahata i don't know), the crossbar and so on. Anyway: next year 2 afc clubs will be there again ready to kick some conmenbol ass.

It's so good that you didn't spell the team name right in your post. Please avoid further self promotion.
