The Associated Press has declared Republican Bob Turner the winner of the special election to fill ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner's seat (NY9) in the House over Democrat David Weprin.
About as meaningful as the special elections last summer that the Dems won. --- Tough to get a read on how the House will play out right now. I have a feeling that the GOP will lose numbers, but enough to lose control? That's a big question.
Any updates on the House? Projected GOP +1 by this site. http://www.electionprojection.com/2012elections/house12.php Detail for each district. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/house/
From what I've read, the GOP thinks they'll hold on to pretty much what they have if Romney's at the top of the ticket. With Santorum, they fear the Dems can take the House back.
I've read it the other way around - what they'll lose in independents with Santorum at the top of the ticket, they'll more than make up in energizing the base. With Romney, they lose both independents and don't get the base out.
It's good night for the Kooch and his bid to face Joe the Plumber in the general election. The Daily Show re-posted this video from last year: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-april-14-2011/dennis-kucinich-s-improbable-success Great work by John Oliver.
That is some bullshit redistricting right there. At some point Kucinik, and by extension the Looney Left, have got to realize that the Democrats really don't want them in their tent.
How do you figure? It was the Republicans that drew the lines this time around. They basically combined the two liberal congresspersons' districts to create this and cause one of them to be ousted.
Seriously. I like Kucinich, and I wish there were more like him in Congress. But unseating a 15-term incumbent doesn't help the constituents, the party or the progressive cause. My personal politics are decidedly to the left, but given the choice, I want someone who can represent the district and get shit done over an activist whose beliefs mirror mine 100%.
Best ad of the campaign season so far comes from Democratic challenger for the U.S. House in South Dakota, Jeff Barth. Looks like the Barth campaign must be a fan of Johnnie Walker...
Joe Walsh does not endorse Joe Walsh for Congress for Illinois, would prefer qualified Democrat war vet instead
Remember what Mario Rubio said, the Democrats' tactics is to divide and tear apart this country. Republicans believe in one America. Mario does not lie. Ever.
Let's see here: Ryan wants to end Medicare as we know it. He's got a tangible item made quite public that proves that. He cannot escape it. He's also voted to privatize Social Security. Now. The Base might dig that shit, but they're extremely out of touch w/ the rest of the country. These 2 ideas are NOT popular, no matter Rush or Grover tell you. And they will be front and center from here to Nov. 6th. Not in your dreams, but in reality.
The prognosticators expect Democrats to get between 10-15 seats this year, about a dozen to 18 short of retaking the House. However, that is off of 'generic Republican versus Obama.' Now that we have two of the least popular Republicans in the country running against Obama, it's a legitimate question: how many of those extra seats are now in play? Is Mitt Romney going to be able to hold vulnerable House GOPers against Dem challengers when he won't have the resources himself? These are legitimate questions.
It's way too early to handicap the House. The biggest effect of Ryan won't be his stand on the issues, directly. It'll be if somehow he hurts Romney so that the late polling predicts a significant Obama win. That will dishearten the GOPs and energize the Dems. IMHO, that's the only way a Ryan pick helps the Dems make Pelosi the speaker.
