Didn't I just read in the paper that George had a liver transplant? I'm serious, this is not a joke about his drinking problems. Hope everything goes well for me.

    OG - Original Gansta!

George Best recovering from a liver transplant--one would hope he would make an appearance, but to quote Mister Best from one of the guys Dave:

"I spent all my money on fast cars and women. The rest I just wasted."

and of course his golazo from taking a swig of a brew, taking the corner kick, and hitting it into the net--the stuff of legend.

Maybe, 2003 Legends Reunion, or do we have to wait until 2006 or 2011?

    getting misty eyed here... Cheers!

I don't know, but I'm seeing a lot of parallels:

The "originals" were top draws from 1974 through 1978, when new and shoddy management begat years of moribund sides on the field, and sluggish sales at the box office, then a sudden turnaround, a magical unbeaten home season, and then...within 2 years the league was gone.

Now granted, MLS isn't in the same shaky situation as NASL was (is it?) -- NASL was never this stable.

    But the comparisons are eerie...

    An article is here:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2162571.stm

Best quote from ol' George was when a reporter accused him of "wasting his millions" and he replied:
"Look, I spent forty percent of it on booze, forty percent of it on women, and, yeah -- I did waste the other twenty percent."

    Or something like that.

Close, but you left out the most important part: the booze. :D "I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."

OMG! Not to take anything away from your wonderful photos G, but I just got back from a visit to Michigan after not being there in the summer for about 11 years. The men there, especially the guys "up-north," still have the same hairstyles as the guys in the 1979 team photo.

    SCARY!!!

    Something like that...

    Dang I forgot the booze!

The Blue One has gotten the shirt that says it all...

Now I really need my Georgie Bestisms after getting punked by a girl.

Getting really misty eyed for the legend! The Yves for the OldSchool, except he actually played for Quakes be the NASL one!

(and thanks for closing the other thread. whew!)

    How much for the shirts?

    Cheers!
