    Will History repeat itself?

Italy wins the '82 WC in Spain(Europe), and gets knocked out of the 1/8 in '86(Outside of Europe). 06' Italy wins the WC, '10 brings some leftovers much like the team in '86.

This is what happen in '86:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_FIFA_World_Cup#Results

Two 1-1 draws and a win to advance, finishing second under a S. American team. So there's a chance this might happen again.

1/8 Italy face France (A European team that hadn't won a WC at the time) and now might face Holland (Euro team that hasn't won it).

If this scenario plays out again, could this also mean Paraguay are in the running to win the cup?

Ben, do you have any allegiance to the Italian NT? You seem to be criticizing anything and everything about Italy in every thread I read. By the way, this is not meant to be offensive; I just noticed your country is not Italy and none of the teams you support are Italian. Was just wondering, that's all.

Possibly but Barrios is no Maradona.

I posted this in regards to both Italy's 1986 team and the current side:
