Really don't know. they did the best transfer work of any team in Europe in January by getting rid of some unproductive players and bringing in some good ones. They still have a mediocre MF and I don't rate Alegri much at all as a tactician.
An easy win over an outmatched Heracles that should have been worse for the visitors. Some great goal keeping and poor finishing kept the scoreline at 3-0 for Ajax. No real outstanding performance on the day but a bunch of decent ones. Really nice goal from Kenneth Taylor and maybe transferring out Gravenberch might not be such a loss. Player Ratings: Pasveer (6) - pretty much a spectator all game long Blind (7) - didn't have much defending to do which was good and spent a lot of time in the offensive half Martinez (7) - solid until coming off late in the match Timber (7) - same as Martinez in terms of play Mazraoui (7) - nice game and had one great shot that was well saved; he is a player who will be missed Alvarez (6.5) - surprise starter and only a silly early YC spoiled his day; he had a late game rocket of a shot that clanged of the cross bar Klaassen (7.5) - got the match winner and made some very good defensive interventions Berghuis (6.5) - above average but not much of a factor Tadic (6.5) - missed a PK which almost never happens Haller (7) - nice goal to give Ajax breathing room Antony (6.5) - another player who picked up a silly YC Taylor (6.5) - solid performance as a sub Schuurs (6) - played well coming on for Martinez Danilo (6) - drew a late penalty Tagliafico (NR) - on late Rensch (NR) - on late Cup tie midweek against Vitesse and then home again against Twente next Sunday.
Probably wouldnot have mattered, but Ajax never won without being in the lead at half time. The ref made an unbelievable blunder by giving a foul from standing at least 25 meters away, while the linesman at 5 foot away didnot think it was a foul. The vids repeat gave the linesman was right and the ref wrong. It did lead to the 1-0.
This is terrible news Director of Football Affairs Marc Overmars will leave Ajax with immediate effect. He made this decision after discussions in recent days with the Supervisory Board and CEO Edwin van der Sar and communicated his intentions to them.— AFC Ajax (@AFCAjax) February 6, 2022
probably on the back of all the voice of holland stuff (me too related) which has been real big in the last couple weeks. Probably gave the women involved confidence to come out about this? this just sucks.
Wow. I was just coming to post my impressions of the game and then saw this. That's really crappy if it is because of #metoo stuff.
I just was reading about that stuff on De Telegraaf. Pretty crazy. It seems the club is claiming that they acted as soon as the messages and behavior came to light, but several commentators are alleging that Van der Saar had to have known. I wonder if this ends up taking him down as well.
Unless an email emerges adressed to him in which an allegation is put forward to him to act on, I don't think so.
I don’t know… maybe after a few years some team that ends up desperate enough?? It’s hard to say with these things. Sometimes given someone’s repentance they might get another chance. Regardless, I hope the guy gets it figured out. Shameful. And hopefully the women aren’t permanently damaged by what happened.
Mike Verweij speculating on the Telesport podcast that due to his close relationship with Overmars, this all but guarantees EtH is gone after this season.
There was always a chance he was going to move on anyway. I know he's had to fend off "bigger" clubs already.
Its gonna depend on how bad the texts were. If they're not TOO bad he might get a 2nd chance at another club, but probably never at Ajax. If they were Harvey Weinstein type texts he's done forever
Its being reported that everyone knew what was going on https://www.ad.nl/nederlands-voetba...s-al-veel-langer-bekend-binnen-ajax~ad9bf7db/
So I just got home and I'm just now finding out about all this. "Vieze oom", oh dear that doesnt sound good vdGijp trying to whitewash it a bit, but thats not gonna work: https://www.ad.nl/video/productie/rene-van-der-gijp-we-gaan-wat-meemaken-met-marc-overmars-281679 This is really stupid of Overmars. Go find a hooker dude if your wife isnt cutting it anymore
NRC says there is also a player involved, after talks with a dozen female employees: https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2022/02/07/de-appjes-van-marc-overmars-werden-almaar-dwingender-a4084706 This is a sad passage: "Ajax's latest annual report shows that 26 percent of the 408 full-time employees are women. According to insiders, general director Van der Sar is in favor of more women in management positions. The same Van der Sar recently sent an email to all employees. It was five days after the report about sexual misconduct and abuse of power in talent show The Voice of Holland. He wrote to give “renewed attention” to this subject. "We will be assisted by a specialized external party to ensure that we receive independent and expert advice." In the e-mail, Van der Sar says what employees can do to make complaints speakable and refers to the complaints procedure and the whistleblower procedure. He writes that Ajax "is already doing and will do everything it can" to support reporters. He mentions the names of an external confidential counselor and the two 'trust contacts' of the club. "This is a sensitive subject, but I certainly don't want to avoid it," Van der Sar concludes the internal email. "As soon as the advice is finalized, I'll get back to you with an update." Twelve days later Ajax sends the press release that Marc Overmars is leaving immediately." According to AD, Overmars had the nickname 'filthy uncle' and Van der Sar 'the friendly father'. https://www.bd.nl/nederlands-voetbal/grensoverschrijdend-gedrag-marc-overmars-al-veel-langer-bekend-binnen-ajax~ad9bf7db/?referrer=https://www.google.com/ Unsurprisingly, the folks Derksen and Gijp you mention with their canteen humour struggle to find an attitude.
Ja, zo kan je ook het Bayern München van Nederland worden— Rik de Jong (@Jongderik) February 6, 2022 Add to this the breaking of corona rules in Portugal (triggered by Overmars!)
Overmars WTF? Ridiculous and stupid. Shameful behavior that hurts and embarrasses the club. Ten Hag will definitely leave after the season so that is going to hurt too. Any thoughts on who replaces Overmars and even Ten Hag? So much to play for, but this is shocking.
