Isnot Pulisic a candidate? With a special honour, the most expensive candidate for the Freddy Adu Award?
Maybe Vincent Janssen is moving up into contention. I don't think he is getting much playing time in Mexico.
Christian Pulisic? Why would he be a candidate? I haven't followed him since he went to Chelsea, but 10 goals in 40 matches for them doesn't make him an under achiever. Where is he now? Injured? IDK. I think that it is going to be hard to beat out Royston Drenthe.
Liga MX is a physically tough league. Looks like he scored 5 times in 25 league matches last season, and has 2 goals in 13 matches so far this season. I don't know too many Europeans who even went to Liga MX much less succeeded except for that French striker Gignac, who has been an absolute goal scoring sensation for Tigres UNAL (cross town rival of Monterrey).
The thread's name giver news: Tom Ekstrom after @FreddyAdu had his contract rescinded at 4th division Swedish side: “Freddy Adu didn’t take it seriously.” // He never took it seriously anywhere. https://t.co/ZpiXMq3FWo— Juan Arango (@JuanG_Arango) February 16, 2021
We haven't had a candidate for the Freddy Adu award in some time. How about former England NT member, Dele Alli. He is still young at 26, but Spurs off loaded him to Everton and now Everton see no need to keep him. What went wrong with his career?
He kicked Kevin de Bruyne. and .... I cursed him for that. Edit: indeed a very promising candidate for t.
Yes, he's the perfect candidate!!! While we tended to focus pretty much on Dutch players, the Freddy Adu award is open to every underachieving player regardless of league. Obviously, Moises Kean is a prime candidate. I remember seeing him as a U-19 player in the youth Champions League some years ago when Juve youth played Ajax and he looked like a real prospect. Didn't happen.
I think he is also an example of someone who peaked early on and when he left Ajax really didn't have much of a career.
I was looking at the team sheet for NEC in the match against Utrecht today. Ended up 0-0 and Cillessen kept a clean sheet. I still can't believe he is playing there and not some other higher ranked team. Anyway, I saw a name from the long ago past for NEC, Terry Lartey Sanniez!!! At one point he was very highly ranked at the Ajax academy and there were posts about him on the thread DRB300 started over a decade ago. Hard to believe he is just 26 years old. So much promise that was not realized.
You guys are overlooking the most obvious one, and that is Ihattaren. I personally think he's done. He's going the way of Dani
I have gut feeling Overmars must be following his developments at Ajax. He will pounce on him if his contract terminated.
I've got the same feeling. Gsus, him at his full capability paired with Frenky and Koopmeiners would instantly become one of the top midfield combo's of the national teams. I still havenot given up hope.
The guy has had problems ever since he moved to Juventus. He pouted, moved back to Utrecht in violation of his team contract. He refused a loan out to Sampdoria where he likely would have had first team football. Ajax threw him a lifeline which it looks like he refused to grasp. Supposedly, he is doing some individual training right now with Ajax. Blunt fact is he failed to take a huge opportunity. Everyone knew Antony was leaving and Ihatteran was getting starting football in the early days of training this past summer. All of the sudden he leaves the team. Do any of you really think a top team will take a chance??? I sure would not. I've commented before on the Ajax thread that I hope he can get his problems straightened out but I suspect that even if he is able to fix things his career will be no better than Royston Drenthe's.
From what I hear Mo likes the nightclubs more than he does football. Exactly same path Drenthe took, except he at least showed up for matches once in a while https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/everton-royston-drenthe-real-madrid-28012416
Just saw this update on Ihatteran. I still think it is doubtful that he stays with Ajax particularly as there are some very promising youth MFs who are working really hard to make the move up to the first team.
