I think we should start a new thread to talk about the next 3 to 8 years of many popular soccer competitions and leagues airing on the networks of FOX. These include All FIFA Competitions All UEFA Competitions All FA Competitions A couple more rights I can't name off the top of my head Sadly at this time most fans can agree that Fox Soccer coverage is not at par of what the most popular sport deserves in terms of coverage. Luckly the pinnacle of events the 2018 World Cup is still a long time away so we can hope that Fox will improve. Here we can talk about their coverage whether good or bad. Enjoy!
Fox also has rights to the Gold Cup. Next year Fox also gets Bundesliga. I think they will do alright. Probably steal a bunch of ideas from ESPN. Maybe even hire some of the same talent.
Knowing fox they will hire Keller and Lalas and not bother with actual talent and knowledge like Darke, Champion, or Burley. I have very little faith in any of the decisions that Fox makes or will make based on past disasters. If you've seen their coverage of big CL matches, any Europa league matches or what they're doing with the ICC, they are sticking by the crap they have. Aside from Mihalik, I dont see anyone on their broadcast who remotely interests me.
Can't stand JP Dellacamera. A certain player(don't really wanna spoil-even a friendly) scores a worldie from beyond the halfway line the other day and his reaction was nowhere near where the excitement level should've been.
No doubt that NBC's gameday coverage is better than FOX but I miss having a ton of replays of games plus Sky Sports News and the FOX Soccer Report which have never been replaced. From my personal perspective FOX served my needs as a soccer fan more than NBC or ESPN.
But also more than NBC + ESPN?? For me, ESPN FC > Fox Soccer Report So both quality and quantity of coverage has improved. BTW, why isn't Fox showing any Champions League games today or tomorrow?
Between NBC, ESPN, BEIN SPORTS and Univision Deportes it all trumps the old Fox soccer channel in my book.
The preliminary qualifying rounds are not part of the Champions League package that UEFA sells internationally; these matches are televised by the clubs involved. The CL package begins with the playoff round in mid-late August, as it has for the last several years.
I still remember when a few people on this board were stating FS1 had better coverage and analysis of the World Cup than espn. As a Washington Redskins fan, I grew up with "the most popular quarterback in town is always the backup QB." FOX Soccer is gone. Fox soccer is what we're going to see now.
I would agree with this. I really did enjoy the old Fox Soccer Channel, but the combination of the current coverage on these networks is a better experience.
I still dont see why fs+ or bein dont show cl qualifiers. If its not part of the package then its fair game for individual games. Its not like theres a ton of content that is new right now.
I don't think they are made available for international distribution. There's no production for FOX to pick up and broadcast.
Plus, even if they were being televised locally, I don't think there's a huge demand to see the likes of Slovan Bratislava v FC Sheriff. It's not until the teams from the top leagues join the competition in the playoff round that anyone but supporters of the clubs involved pay attention to the UCL. What's more likely to be shown at this stage of qualification is a Europa League qualifier since they don't exempt clubs from the top leagues until the last playoff round like the UCL does. This year, the pickings from the top leagues aren't that exciting (Hull, Mainz, Torino, Sociedad, Lyon) but I do recall a few years ago Liverpool was in this round and had their qualifier picked up by FSC as it was televised in England.
Yeah every year I write about bein or someone showing a 3rd qualifying matches and then some wise ass will find the least appealing of all the matchups and write "yeah id love to see AEL Limasol v Bate barisov!" Completely ignoring Celtic, Feyenoord, Copenhagen, etc. Its competitive football in the summer when there isnt much of that to be had.
And every year people bitch about the matches not being televised when they should know they aren't and never have been part of the UEFA international package. It's not like BeIN or Fox is going to go through all the trouble of negotiating with whatever individual clubs might be televising these matches, which even in the case of Celtic, Feyenoord or Copenhagen have limited appeal. I do agree though, that during the summer months, there's no excuse why BeIN can't show something they already have the rights to, namely the RPL.
Last year GolTV did step up to show the Celtic-Elfsborg tie in the third qualifying round, so showing some of these matches is in the realm of possibility and not an unreasonable request. I would certainly rather watch these competitive games than all the dumb friendlies everyone is televising.
I posted this elsewhere but what is going on with GolTV's coverage of the Swiss league and why haven't they said anything else about it yet? Like, idk, is it actually happening?
Im more than aware of the fact that the qualifying rounds pre playoff round of the cl is not part of the package that fox has the rights to. Im also aware of the fact that I watched a stream of Sparta Prague-malmo today and that Setanta Ireland showed the St Pats- Legia Warsaw match last round. These matches are being televised in different places so its doable. I get that Celtic, Feyenoord, or Besiktas are not huge draws but bein has plenty of open airtime, fs+, dont even get me started.
