Absolute power move lol. Florentino has completed de-fanged Ceferin and rendered UEFA powerless. Watch the same English come crawling back some even making it seem like ESL is their idea when the tournament takes over UEFA in the near future.
This is going to end up being another summer tournament, think the extremely glorified friendly fixtures possibly even being played overseas in the US. Kind of like the International Champions Cup that people were always like why is Arsenal and Milan playing if they aren't champions of anything. Given the WC's odd calendaring next year, it will be kind of hard to start up a new competition. So 2023 maybe the earliest start date and by that time the novelty may have worn off, certainly the sense of urgency and financial strain due to the pandemic might be just a bad memory at that point. I can also see players not going along with it. In fact it will give them the perfect opportunity to go on "strike" and have a new European players Union demanding a 51% cut from the new league, revised contracts for each player participating, automatic guaranteed performance bonuses, etc.
The most logical play is to replace the Copa De Rey and all those useless domestic cups which no one cares about. That was my assumption from the start. Those calendar dates already exist.
It might be, but would there be the same interest if the same teams were playing in the Champions League and the ESL simultaneously? I might just be saying this as someone who loves watching the Copa games.
Slowly back track. From complete failure to now being a summer tournament. I'm sure players will object to have more money flow down to them. Absurd! Football isn't about money going to the players' pockets! Need to save football again.
🚨🌕| The Super League will be launched in either 2022 or 2023. All 12 clubs are still on board and are only waiting for the European Court of Justice's approval, which they expect to receive in the next few months. @voz_populi #rmalive— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) August 15, 2021 🚨🌕| The Super League is expected to have a new format and will NOT be a closed league. @voz_populi #rmalive— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) August 15, 2021
But Messi and Ronaldo will be playing at PSG and they will claim its doesn't have the best team in the world. All jokes aside sucks for their legacies because with all those games even scrub players will be able to pass them on the scoring charts. Ditto Di Stefano, Raul, Benzema, etc.
At least the 'failed' launch this year has allowed them to get feedback. Hopefully they iron out the issues and do a little better communicating the next time around.
UEFA have abandoned any punishment against the three clubs of the Super League and will not request any fines against the other nine. Lol now we watch as Liverpool, Manchester, etc owners crawl back ignoring they apologized and beg their ignorant silly fanbases. I wonder now if Liverpool's owners will have the balls to publicly back this and own it.... nah. He'll slink in through the backdoor then say he was bound by contract.
For the super league to take off, the organisers will have to plead for the English teams to participate, who make up the biggest number and fan base. No one is going to watch only three teams in a tournament that has no legacy.
Whatever happens in the future, this is an utter humiliation for UEFA and it proves that there needs to be some kind of alternative to the status quo, whether it's the Super League or some other entity. Ceferin and co. couldn't even consult their own lawyers with any competence. Many knowledgeable commentators stated publicly from the outset that UEFA would lose in court. But they went ahead anyway, because they're UEFA and they believe that they're accountable only unto themselves. It was only the threat of indictment that made them comply with the court's ruling The Super League can't "ruin" football, because UEFA did that years ago. They just don't want any other organization or competition to threaten their monopoly on the pillaging that has followed ever since.
Now they're seeking to remove a judge from the Madrid court because they're saying the proceedings were "highly irregular". https://www.espn.com/soccer/uefa-ch...-to-discipline-barcelona-real-madrid-juventus UEFA can't accept that there's egg on their face. This story keeps getting funnier.
You guys will come back crawling and begging. Your dumb ass fans probably don't understand how contracts work or what being financially penalized for breaking them means... but the foreigners who own your clubs do.
