The Day After Tomorow (movie) [spoiler possible]

Anyone seen this movie? I mention it because of the reference to Manchester United in a scene in which 3 men are about to die of freezing, and they have one last toast of Scotch. One of the guys toasts to England, the second to Mankind, and the last to Manchester United. Just thought it was good to see this kind of commitment to the club.

Went to see it yesterday - was laughing to myself as i heard quite a few people around me mutter "who the f*** are manchester United"...quite funny.

Didn't think the movie lived up to the hype though!

Went to see this last sat. night, I loved the ManUtd. references, probably my favorite part of this special effects movie because thats the only reason it was even watchable, somebody should really put a propaganda label on some of these movies, at times I almost felt like Michael Moore directed this thing, it was fun to hear all the laughs at the " Mexico closes it's border... " news headline...

As Hollywood blockbusters go, The Day After Tomorrow is up there with the very best of them.

Stunning special effects including giant tidal waves, multiple tornadoes and snowstorms which engulf Los Angeles and New York are simply mind blowing. But what will really interest Reds fans is director Roland Emmerich's decision to include numerous references to United in amongst the thrilling scenes of devastation and mayhem caused by global warming.

Ryan Giggs and Ruud van Nistelrooy play prominent roles during the footage of the team which sees United take on Boca Juniors at Old Trafford from August 2002 - although in the movie we are told the team are up against Celtic in the Champions League!

In another scene, which takes place just as the eye of the storm is about to hit the United Kingdom, Professor Terry Rapson enjoys one last toast with his two colleagues - one of whom chooses to salute United in the last moments of his life.

German-born Emmerich admits it was his co-writer, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, who first came up with the idea to feature the Reds, but as ManUtd.com exclusively found out when we caught up with the critically acclaimed director, Emmerich hopes sport will soon begin to play a more prominent role in Hollywood and he is not averse to the idea of shooting a football film himself!

"Jeffrey wrote the references to United in his first script," recalls Emmerich, 49, who follows VfB Stuttgart. "I laughed out loud when I read it and it was never ever changed. Jeffrey grew up in England so he knows how important soccer is over there and along with Real Madrid, United are the most famous team in the world.

"Soccer is becoming more and more popular in the United States especially with kids, and I think every kid who plays soccer in America loves Manchester United. There was never any question we were going to use any other team in the movie and it got a big chuckle at some of the test screenings!
