Chelsea have probably been the best team in England the last 2 decades, far better than anything Arsenal has shown since 2005.

As for statement signings, what bar raiser players are on the market? If we can't find any, how can Chelsea. Good signings so far, they might be able to compete for the league if Liverpool lose that completely unsustainable form they had, and if City drop a level now that key players (Kompany, Fernandinho, Silva, Aguero) seem to not be adequately replaced.

Their youth team is supposed to be one of the best in the country. Sounds like it's way ahead of the other premier league teams too.

I have noticed that. I think the most important thing is what you said: The market currently doesn't offer any really exciting players. At the same time, i'd stay tight fisted than invest 50 here, 50 there, for players that don't really push the needle a lot.

If you look at the top transfer spending of Chelsea it has been on players like Kepa Morata Pulisic Bakayoko Drinkwater Torres Batsuayi Shevchenko

Most of them have been flops

Werner must make Liverpool regret letting him go to Chelsea – Jamie Redknapp

Imagine hyping this guy so much. [emoji23] First make sure he's not next Morata or Nicolas Pepe.

Fair enough, I have to say though, I’m no fan of Chelsea, but, individually those players may not “push the needle” but collectively they just might, and in the end it’s about building a competitive team so maybe not a bad idea, this is money being spent in the EPL so......

as you’ve pointed out, in the current financial market huge purchases probably won’t happen at the moment, so what’s the alternative , sit and do nothing at all to improve your team, with another season passing waiting for the “big” signing while your team is stagnant or slips further behind, or at least make incremental additions to try to lift the level of your team up,

if we’re honest players who push the needle a lot more often than not, head for a few select clubs, and no matter how much money they have I don’t see Chelsea as one of those clubs, even the once mighty Manure find it hard to attract players like that, so maybe, just maybe, Chelsea have the right idea for their club

as for exciting players out there, well, in most fans eyes there’s Mbappe, so,..... there’s that...... and first, as both of us have pointed out ,no one wants to spend that kind of money at the moment and second, to my point, I really doubt he’d head for Chelsea even without Covid 19.........

Yeah, but when was the last team of collectively solid players that reached for the top? Feels to me like a waste of time, especially with those players earning handsome wages. I don't know, but at the end of the day, i'm not a Chelsea fan, so them being not good isn't really my worry. Just a matter of moves with not any amount of risk not being very inspiring to me. I'd rather see teams i don't support make bold moves to keep things interesting than just trying to maintain a decent level and bore us to death.

Yeah, i'm just not the kind of person that feels excited to watch a team that paid 64 mil. for Pulisic, a player that is for me as good as Lucas Vazquez is at his best night. I'd rather pay a relatively large amount on a gamble for a teenager than an inflated amount for what will probably make a solid role player on a very good team.

Germany had several world class players. Core was formed by Bayern and Dortmund players that played in 2013 CL final. Lahm, Hummels, Neuer, Kroos, Muller, Bastian etc were among the best players in their position. Chelsea only has Kante who's top class in his position. They have been losing a truckload of games at home to minnows this season and could very well be in Europa League next season.

I agree they need a star player for that final push, but they need to make sure finishing top 4 is the norm in order to be able to attract that star player.

I understand that but a lot of times teams miss the window of opportunity like that. Arsenal and Tottenham are now basically stuck in this "just qualify for the CL, that counts as a trophy" zone.

Especially if you was going to school back then and the discussion was about who is the best and who did the wildest thing that week.

Football kind of sheds it's skin doesn't it? I feel like the sport moves on from past generations so quick.
I definitely feel that brands need to incorporate legends more into the football culture and so do clubs as well although I think Real Madrid and a few others(Bayern, Manchester United probably) have been doing well in this aspect.

Drogba and Lampard turning back the years was key plus their defense. Drogba scored against Barca and Bayern. Lampard had that beautiful assist playing with a man down for Chelsea.

Chelsea lack world class talents or veterans that can do that currently. Chelsea with new signings doesn't have anyone of the calibre of Costa, Hazard or Cesc. Their signings are more like Ramires, Jorginho level nowadays.

I had just started to get into football during the 2000s.

It's wild to see how stacked those teams were with 2006 being the swansong for that generation.

I know the average player now is more competitive but it seems like that generation was the last one that truly had the artists, the finishers and general specialist types of players with their own unique abilities. Many players now seem like their sheer physical prowess could slot into many positions and roles.

I'm sad that I caught the tail end of the 98-06 generation.

Well, impossible to find a team that reached the top without some players coming-up huge. But that Chelsea squad was nothing more than a group of solid players. Sure there were 3 or 4 big names but those guys were well past their prime by 2012 and 'world class' by name only.

Drogba had 26 goals in two years, which is not world-class scoring by any stretch.
