Some scientific knowledge wasn't available at the time of other defenders...
Neither was Marcelo on the left back with half of football field behind their back to defend. Neither was a responsibility to play-make out of pressure and start the attacks. Neither was a weakened offside rule.
Neither was Cristiano to score clutch goals, neither they had Capello, Mourinho, Carlo and Zidane as their coaches. Neither is any of them responsible for natural talent baseline.
    So what?

Sergio beats other defender in all relevant areas: defending, attacking, leading the team, longevity, trophies.

If I am correct, Ramos can break the 184 cap record at the Euro 2021. Spain has five matches scheduled, but I supposed that Spain will add friendlies between November and the Finals of Euro 2020. I supposed at least two matches. So he might be very close at the end of round one of the Finals. Spain should at least make it the round of 16.

It is insane that a player is this good for so long. He's 34, and perhaps he will retire from the NT after Euros, but I can see him playing at a decent level for at least 2-3 more years. I just hope he plays when the Bernabeu is reopened. I want to be there for that 1st match and I want Ramos to play.

Unless there's some sort of fallout with the board I don't see Ramos going anywhere anytime soon. He has Ronaldo-like dedication to his body. Ramos' ability to read the game will enable him to play longer. I'm confident he's a starter here the next 3 years if he wants to be.

You can be dedicated to your body all you want. Age is still age.

    Sad but true

for sure but the player’s position plays a big role. History shows CBs and GKs tend to have a longer shelf life.

Tom Brady doesn't rely in athleticism.

Lebron James would be a better example even though he is much younger than Brady

What's happening with Ramos' extension? Lot's of conflicting reports about presser for both Florentino and Ramos on Monday. Some reporting he'll announce to stay, others saying that PSG and Juve offering him a blank cheque.

This is about as much of a no-brainer as you can get. Ramos has to stay.

Not if PSG is offering him 500K per week and he expects us to match it.

The club is studying the need for another paycut in 2021. Maybe thats stalling new contracts.

If we're studying the need for anothet paycut I don't know how we can splash some absurd amount on Mbappe without having issues

I think he said that he would retire after the WC Finals. He isn't going to step away without breaking that record. CR7 is actually 8 caps away from Ramos.

This could be a big problem. Really any signings at this point even in the summer hinge on some form of normal life returning by then. If some of the experts are right with end of 2021 when that starts to happen we’re possibly squeezing whatever we can with the current squad.

If we don't have fans back in 2020/2021 we're not signing nobody.

Then he's free to move his entire family to Paris or up and leave them to play for a couple years and spend all the extra money he earns on double accomodation in Madrid and France, along with probably stricter traveling rules surrounding the virus making going back and forth between cities a lot more complicated and expensive.

I don't think Ramos is going to leave now. It's a bluff, and nobody is buying it.

No chance Ramos is leaving and I don’t even think he’s bluffed like he did years ago. You don’t put your blood and sweat into building your legacy at a top club like ours and then walk away when you’re king.

This is an exaggeration. We can't sign Mbappe but we could make other smaller smarter buys.

Also if we don't people should forget about us winning.
