Yup, and it is reported Benfica will immediately use part of that cash to buy Enzo Fernandez for his €20m release clause (who they will then likely sell to a Spanish or Italian team for triple that amount in the near future).

Apparently they already have a 5 year contract proposal prepared. The only thing that could stop or delay the move is Enzo himself, since apparently he wants to stay til December (the guy is a hardcore River fanatic who makes RiverGaucho look like a casual fan, and he is said to be keen on completing his childhood dream of playing/winning a Libertadores with River)

Benfica will push heavy to take him now though, so we’ll have to see what happens

From now on, River(Or any of our domestic clubs )needs to slap a 50ME buyout clause on any youngster with any potential. Those could be haggled with rather than having them just triggered.

In fact, I’d stop dealing with Portuguese clubs. A mediocre league who gets the financial benefit of playing in Europe; where they exploit the economic issues that are happening back home.

Game is a lot more even than I expected. Not sure what's up with Peru, they look nervous on defense.

Yeah, the game has been a snoozer. Peru are playing scared.
Indeed. I actually even heard the Canciones de Boca being played in the stadium.

What a god damn clown. Australia is going to get crushed in that group. Peru at least he a chance to get out of that group but now? We will likely play the Danes(Granted, if finish first and they finish second).

What a choke by Peru. I don't understand why they played so bad today when they've been through the playoff before last time.

It was different this time. They played NZ last time around and they also had a game in front of their supporters. It was a god awful showing on their part. And Australia are apparently having a down cycle.

Peru can have their day, but they really aren’t the greatest side. I think people overrate them a tad bit. Sure, sometimes they have inspired performances, but if you look at their roster they’re a very average team.

Colombia is much stronger and has waaaaaay more depth in terms of their national pool, but were just improperly managed during WCQs. They held on to Rueda for way too long and that ended up haunting them

I could make a comment on how I enjoyed a cheeseburger for lunch, and you’d still somehow find a way to link it to River :D

France lost another game today. Granted, I was watching the Peru match and did not watch the match. But I’ve looked at their fixtures and they lost at home to Denmark, drew in Croatia, drew in Austria and lost in France to Croatia. They won’t be able to win their group.

    Denmark on the other hand.
    Win in France
    Win in Austria
    Lost at home to Croatia
    Beat Austria in Denmark.

They are first. They’ll be playing France again in the World Cup. They know each other well. I believe they were in the same group in 2018 but you would think France would win this group just on the talent or perhaps overhyped talent.

I wouldn’t pay too much attention to that. In 2018, France arrived to the WC tying vs USA and losing to Colombia. They also had recently lost to Sweden in WC qualifiers, and even got to a rough start in the WC itself with an extremely poor performance vs a futile Australia

Yet, they won the whole thing…

On the other hand look at us in 2002, looking completely unstoppable, only to crash in the first round.

The WC is a different beast. It’s all about form and luck. You can be the best, but that doesn’t guarantee anything. France certainly has the individual talent, I wouldn’t run to any conclusions based on a few irrelevant NL results

Germany was 10 win out of 10 in 2018 qualifier, then lost to Mexico & S Korea:D

Spain thrashed us in friendlies , granted its mostly second strings but they're one of top 3 fav, yet couldnt beat Morocco & Russia:laugh:

I agree that to win the WC usually you have to be hitting a good form during those few weeks plus luck, 2002 & 2018 are good examples but 2010 & 2014 were won by a team that has been consistent for sometime. Even the finalists in 2010 & 2014 were both a team that has been consistent for more than 2 years, so I'd say between consistency & luck , it would be 65:35.

While I tend to agree with you that the World Cup is an entire different beast. It is a one month tournament and the team that gets hot and has a bit of luck wins it. But I think teams underperforming in these matches might be signs of what could come. I do not think France can just flip the switch when they please and glide past opponents. It could possibly be something more. I guess only time will tell.

The good news is that Denmark and France play in the second match, which at times is considered the most important.

Australia… If they manage to draw v France, it will give them a single point.

Second match they play Tunisia… Well, you’d think they’d go all out and win… 4 points…

    Last match… Denmark… gentleman’s agreement and they draw… 5…

    France. Draw game 1.
Denmark repeats their victory in Paris, France still on 1 point.
    France thrash Tunisia… 4 points.

Denmark. Open the World Cup v Tunisia. 3 points.
    Upset France. 6 points.
    Draw Australia. 7 points.

    Denmark 7
    Australia 5 points
    France 4 points.

    You heard it here first!
