Duke's Andrew Wenger with no shots yet. It's a pity they don't keep playing more overtimes until somebody wins. The poor fans in attendance must surely deserve a goal.

Cavs get a 110th minute goal from Brian Span and advance 4-3.

Sounds like it was a Steve Martin game: wild and crazy. (I totally just dated myself there.)

And Duke and Clemson headed to PKs. Curious what a draw does for Clemson's RPI and NCAA chances, especially if they don't advance. They might be better off not advancing and taking their chances as a .500 team then advancing and losing in the SFs and having a losing record.

That's 11 goals in 4 games for Virginia since Will Bates got hurt.

Was thinking that myself. Using the basic RPI, a draw with Duke would hurt, but they also get a nice bonus because it's a road draw against a highly ranked team.

Duke advances on PKs 5-4 in 6 rounds. Clemson had a chance to win it in the 5th round but missed then missed in the 6th as well.

Friday, Duke will face BC and UNC will face Maryland. Both games will be available to watch on line on ESPN3.com.

Apparently Wenger played center back tonight since Ibeagha was out due to his red card in the Elon game.

Doesn't UNC play UVA? Am I missing something?

No, you're not missing anything... unless you didn't realize I'm an idiot.

My bad, thanks for catching it.

    All ACC awards announced.

Duke's Andrew Wenger is offensive player of the year after winning the defensive honor last year as a So. That's a REALLY impressive double.

This year's defensive POY is UNC's Butler transfer Matt Hedges. IMO, Hedges should have been in MLS this season but he didn't get a GA offer so he settled for transferring to UNC and given that the Heels had the best defense in the ACC and Hedges has scored 5 goals, I can't quibble with him getting the award.

Teammate Mikey Lopez is the freshman of the year. But Duke Fr. Nick Palodichuk made the all-conference second team while Lopez did not. Never understand how that happens.

I think he's going to be busy learning (the bastardized version they speak in Quebec) French.

    UNC advances in OT.

Rob Lovejoy made a nice run down the right and got past a couple of UVa defenders then hit a nice low cross that a charging Billy Schuler slotted in. It was an easy finish made possible by a smart run by him and some nice skill by Lovejoy.

Schuler didn't play the first half because of a knock. UNC still dominated but they couldn't break UVa down. The Cavs, meanwhile, rarely threatened and seemed content to hope for a breakaway counter.

The announcers for the game on ESPN3 were god-awful.

Who was the female announcer who kept referencing playing for April Heinrichs.
I did like how she crow barred the word 'texture' in reference to UNC ball possession kinda like Chris Sullivan with his cohesion, comprehensive, calculating, compelling references. Nice Lovejoy look back pass. For all the UNC does well they are so impatient in the final third. Let the rest of the team get into their positions then break
VA down. Instead they try the hardest longest pass or shot instead of the simple one to breakdown the D.

I sincerely think that was the first soccer match that play by play announcer had ever seen. Disturbing.

    there was another game......

BC, listed as the seventh seed in the original nine-team draw of the ACC Men's Soccer Tournament, advanced to the finals with a 2-1 win over No. 2 Duke on Friday when Diego Medina-Mendez volleyed in a corner kick with 24:57 left

As a Terp fan, this only serves to reignite my hopes of getting a top-4 seed. They're slim, but the better BC does, the better that loss looks.
