-- -- -- -- -- -- It's time to prepare your Election Day Bunker! I've got mine well stocked with fun size Baby Ruth and Peanut Butter Cups left over from Halloween. And bourbon. What's in your Election Day Bunker? -- -- -- HAIL GRIMES! --
Looks like maybe the first result we get will be Kentucky's 6th district. The last may be Alaska's governor and at large House races.
I was about to open this thread. Thanks. BTW, I think "Election Day" has become a misnomer, since so many of us have voted already. Maybe it should be called "Election Deadline".
You're not helping. In the past, I put a bottle of sparkling wine in the fridge for the celebration that was sure to happen. I did it in 2004 and 2016. There is no chilled sparkling wine in my election bunker tonight.
So it’s upon us. The midterm election to end all midterm elections. Let’s get it done! HAIL GRIMES!!!
I can't decide if I want to watch the world end on the big screen of death in my living room, or through the tiny window of doom that is my phone, sitting on the deck. The good part about sitting outside is that we have a pretty good view, so if any big riots or firestorms start anywhere on the Peninsula from Palo Alto to San Mateo, we should be able to see them. Or if there's a really big one across the bay, but that would pretty much have to be visible from space. My wife is working late, so she's hopeful that society won't completely break down and the trains will still be running this evening. I think the drink of choice is going to be some bottles of my favorite German helles, you know, to celebrate the role of world leadership that we're handing over to them. I've got some scotch that could double as a paint stripper if it comes to it.
My friends & coworkers are saying that the lines in NYC and NYC 'burbs are longer than in 2016. I wouldn't be shocked if we flipped a couple of local house seats (Staten Island & Long Island), and we're definitely going to flip the state senate. I want Peter King's seat. Badly.
I am relocating to Louisiana, but I already voted absentee up in Virginia. My Facebook friends are reporting the longest lines they have ever seen at polling places in VA and MD. Interesting that LA is one of the states that saw increased early voting compared to 2014 - there is literally not a single interesting race on the ballot. It makes me think we shouldn't read too much into the surge in early voting. Maybe people just think it's convenient.
Our lines in the deep blue parts of STL are too. I got there at 5:30am for 2016 for the 6am open and I was number ~ 15 in line. Today I was number ~ 40. Lines through the precincts were at roughly 40 minute waits for those who got into line from poll open until 8am in 2016. Today they were an hour. The thing is, we had abt 77% turnout in 2016. So either my ward is seeing an unusual amount of early AM voting or we're in for >90% turnout. For a midterm. Where does that happen?
I voted by absentee over a week and a half ago since I'm on the road in our nation's capital. Let's see if it bears fruit. Here's to the Dems taking control of both the House and Senate, and finally putting a real check on Il Duce di Merda.
This is kind of like following the 1933 german elections in a PBP thread Will it be a dumb trucker hat and nuclear war? Or does Jr go to prison? The ultimate reality TV show
You're in the district to replace what's his racist ass from Carbondale right? He's running, and losing, the Senate race, and won his seat in the 2010 wave.
