These are the teams I have as being the most popular in s. america + mex. They normally play the local derby in their corresponding leagues. One is normally the team of the "people" the other is the team of the more affluent. .....team of the people...........of the more affluent bra: flamengo..........................fluminense bra: corinthians........................sao paolo bra: gremio.............................internacional bra: cruzeiro...........................atl mineiro arg: boca................................river bol: bolívar.............................the strongest chi: colo colo...........................u. chile col: millonarios.........................santa fe col: america cali.......................deportivo cali col: medellin............................atl. nacional ecu: barcelona.........................emelec ecu: aucas..............................LDU quito par: cerro porteño....................olympia per: alianza lima.......................universitario uru: peñarol...........................nacion al ven: caracas fc........................no famous derby mex: america mexico city........cruz azul/UNAM pumas mex: guadalajara chivas...........atlas mex: monterrey.......................UANL Tigres Is this accurate? or am I way off?
Ecuador: Barcelona 29%-30% LDU Quito 21% Emelec 20% The rest of ALL the other teams only shares the 30% "El calisco del astillero", Barcelona - Emelec, the most important derby in Guayaquil... In Quito there is not a real derby, LDU Quito - Aucas is a devaluated classic... The most important match in Quito is LDU Quito - Dep. Quito or LDU Quito - El Nacional. Actually, the most important match in Ecuador is LDU Quito - Barcelona, because is like a "match" between Quito and Guayaquil (but don't tell anyone)
true, I am a Barcelonista, but at the same time, I really respect, and sadly have to admit, LDU is the supperior side.
in mexico is america vs chivas (only) in colombia is DIM vs ATl. Nacional, but america vs dept cali is interesting. 20 yrs ago it was santa fe vs Millonarios (now they r poor and mis-managed)
sounds like the austin powers bit...one billion dollars... i gotta say, i've been watching ecuador leagues games in recent months and they've got a great hincha...
well you got the majroity of cali which is around 3-5 million not mention the people in the valle which population is around 7 million people so lets just take around half of that 5 million then lets take a small population of about maybe 20% of all other colombians now polls have shown that america has almost %40 of popular support in colombia taking that figure yo ucan easily fit together 10 million or more supporters
Colombia has 40 million people??? 20% of that would be 8million. So if 20% of colombians are america fans then maybe.
45 milliion we have but polls show america around 40 percent rounded other ones show 30 rarely do they go under 25 america doesnt have all of cali as fans but the majority cali is a big city i would call it around 5 million counting around 3.5 million of those as american fans...plus considering valle de cauca state alone as 7 million we have around 65% of that state to us throught stadium polls 25% to cali and another 10% to cortulua
second is nacional with around 20 percent of popular support 3rd is a straight tie between D.I.M. and Dep Cali with 11 percent each santa fe and millionarios come close to althought being in a big city they do not have much national support leaving them with 7 and 5 percent of the publics support respectively after that its really all to the birds....
kinda off. I wouldn't say America is a team of the people. Just because they have many fans doesn't mean that theyre a team of the people. America and Chivas as well as Cruz Azul are owned by Big Companies and they aren't a peoples team. Exception on Chivas though as many "patriotic" mexicans support them as they are an ALL Mexican squad. Honestly many fans of America and Cruz Azul outside of Mexico City who aren't from there are just glory hunters. It doesn't necessarily make them a team of the people. I would fix your list as follows: mex: America, Cruz Azul........UNAM Pumas mex: guadalajara chivas...........atlas, UAG Tecos mex: UANL Tigres.......................Monterrey
es verdad....no tenera mas classicos en el brasileno, solo por lo estadual.... 6 pontos a minos para niter en el brasileno
In Chile: Colo Colo - 30% U. de Chile - 30% Rest - 40% In Chile there are 2 teams "of the people", which are CC and U de Chile. The rich team is Catolica, but they don't have nearly as many fans as the first two, though they still have a sizeable, loyal following. All the other respective teams (outside the capital) are supported in their cities but there are many province folks who still root for the top two.
It is not this well. The rival greater of the Corinthians is the Palmeiras, the São Paulo comes soon behind the Palmeiras in rivalry terms. The Brazilian classic greaters are: SÃO PAULO Corinthians x Palmeiras Corinthians x São Paulo Corinthians x Santos Palmeiras x São Paulo Palmeiras x Santos São Paulo x Santos Ponte Preta x Guarani Rio de Janeiro Flamengo x Fluminense Flamengo x Vasco Flamengo x Botafogo Fluminense x Vasco Fluminense x Botafogo Vasco x Botafogo Minas Gerais Cruzeiro x Atletico MG Cruzeiro x America MG Atletico MG x America MG Rio Grande do Sul Gremio x Inter Gremio x Juventude Inter x Juventude Parana Atletico PR x Parana Atletico PR x Coritiba Parana x Coritiba Bahia Vitoria x Bahia Para Paysandu x Remo Santa Catarina Criciuma x Figueirense
A little sidenote, In most, if not all, of these countries the "people's team" is also the one with the most number of fans. There is at least one exception though. In Peru the "people's team" (Alianza Lima) has fewer fans than the "affluent" team (Universitario). Polls usually show Universitario at around 35-38% and Alianza at 30-33%. Peru isn't exactly overflowing with "affluent" people so it can be argued that la U is the true "people's team" although it's hard to change decades-old perceptions. Any other countries with this situation?
Isn't a university team considered a team of the "affluent"? An overwhelmingly large number of poor people don't go to universities in south america (I was told)
