I will have to think about this one for a while, although I guess my selection will mirror yours a lot. Though I would probably put Goycoechea in my first team instead of Zenga. I`m currently compiling some teams for the 1970 World Cup, looking forward to your contributions, Comme.

Wasn`t it, that Cornejo of Costa Rica was voted the best keeper, so he should be given credit to. I think this world cup will be remembered for its absolute lack of free-kick goals. I just remember Stojkovic`s 2-1 vs Spain, but did any second goal occured this way?
Yeah, Conejo had a great WC! I couldn't forget his performance against Brazil. He deserves, at least, a honorable mention. Actually, I don't remember any free-kick goal... I'll look for them
I remember a Czech player, Kubik, scored vs. Costa Rica on a free kick. Also Michel against South Korea and Vervoort for Belgium vs. Spain.
Two in this game: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqzB8nJfvqU"]YouTube - Spain & South Korea world cup 1990[/ame]
Yes. He was fenominal against both Scotland and Sweden, and it took an own-goal by Brazil to beat us. In the second round against the Czechs, he came out in the second half with the score tied at 1-1, and things went way downhill from there. Do you mean directly from free kicks? Because I still remember Cameroon's goal against Argentina, which came off a rebound after a free kick. Pumpido should have had that ball, too. I still can't believe we lost that match.
Neither do I... But Cameroon really surprised with their "irresponsible" play, not only in the first match but in the overall tournament. IMO, that clash against England was the best moment of that WC...
Yeah, they had a great game against England, even though they lost. Their match against Colombia was very good, too. I think they gained in confidence after they beat Argentina, even though in that first match they really were very fortunate to get the win.
Maradona only made a C and that is it The man got Bronze ball in that WC, past 5 Brazilian players by himself and he is only in the C team
He really was not great that tournament. He had that one great run against Brazil and one good one against Italy but was otherwise pretty anonymous.
I guess my selection will mirror yours a lot. Though I would probably put Goycoechea in my first team instead of Zenga. Lisa11

No one was great at that WC Finals. Pele made a prediction that this would be the greatest ever WC because most of the stars were playing at home(Serie A). Instead, everyone sucked. Matthaeus, Baggio, Gazza, Goycoechea, etc were the only stars.
You forgot one of the biggest ones, Milla. Without Cameroon the tournament would have been an absolute snore, the final also went down as the most disappointing ever, with former Argentine coach Menotti saying it left him ashamed to be an Argentine. The one bright spot was it causing FIFA to begin to modify the rules (eliminating the pass back to the keeper, etc.) to promote more attacking play.
Pele and his predictions.... God, that guy just doesn't learn to keep some things to himself. Pele's continued insistence in providing predictions is like a piece of dog shit you see laying on the sidewalk. Everyday that passes it smells worse and worse...
I thought Spain looked good a the beginning with some solid passing , but that seemed to fall apart fast
