Angelino is how you call a resident from los Angeles in Spanish or a team from LA. It's used a lot when narrating sports, for example, El cuadro Angelino, Chivas USA, Dodgers etc. Meaning, the team from LA.
Hmm... OK, looking at a Spanish dictionary, I do see angelino listed as an adjective meaning "from LA." Angeleno is a noun meaning "a resident of LA" (which is what the poster did state his intent was). I guess this spelling controversy would be a good reason not to use the term, though.
I hope the proposed Miami franchise isn't named Miami Vice because that would set an unappealing precedent. I doubt anyone in Los Angeles would want their squad named LA Law. Actually, with the snail-paced stadium negotiations going on in Miami that could go the other way around. On a serious note. Just predicting (read: not an opinion) that a Latino name won't be chosen because they want to make a clean break away from the CD Chivas USA brand. That said, I think the team should go with Los Angeles FC because it's simple and rolls off the tongue well. That way, the fans can still call them the Goats without brand interference - if that's what the fans are inclined to do.
To play off of the whole ownership/name change, get Michael Bay as the new owner and call the team the L.A. Transformers. Get Megan Fox to sing the national anthem and set off explosions after every goal.
If you guys don't like Aztecs, would you consider California Surf? Or, you could bring back the LA Salsa.
Can't wait until the end of the summer when this supposed new ownership reveals him (them) self and we get to see what our name and badge will look like
Growing up in South Los Angeles(formerly known as South Central L.A.) I honestly would not mind at all if the team's name was changed to FC Los Angeles with us keeping the red and white scheme. But whatever happens after the WC this summer I just hope the new owner is trophy hungry, we need a owner like that.
I was kind of hoping Anaheim would get a team, either new or (more likely) through relocation. But that seems not to be an option. Wasn't the Surf in Anaheim? Maybe even in Angel Stadium?
I personally think they should rebrand Los Angeles Barons or Los Angeles Stars. Those would be two really good names for the soccer club, or I personally like LAX FC or LAX SC. I just think Los Angeles FC or Los Angeles SC is not that inspired for a choice but they should honestly ask the Chivas USA season ticket holders and supporters what they want. Have a poll, find out the top 4 popular names then do another poll, ask the season ticket holders and supporters about the color scheme and where they possibly would like to see the stadium located. MLS should really look into promoting the new owner right now and get a 5-year extended lease with club opt-out options each year at StubHub Center. I just hope that MLS isn't holding out to just relocate to Sacramento as I think they should be the 24th team. The conferences would break-down nicely with 12 each.
Los Angeles FC Los Angeles City FC Angel City FC LA Aztecs LA Rovers FC Something traditional and respectable. None of this LA Salsa or California Surf BS
This is the last time visitors here are going to be warned, any poster that comes in here and suggest that we go with the name LA Aztecs will be considered a Troll and will be dealt with accordingly.
Guys I have it. The new teams colors should be silver and black. Remember when the Raiders were in LA? Everyone was pimpin Raider gear. The LA Kings changed their colors to silver and black and everyone started to wear Kings gear as well. Keep the name simple..Los Angeles FC, Atletico Los Angeles,L.A. United. Ice Cube and the rest of the homies will be thrilled.
Is LA a must somewhere in the name? Could it be state inclusive like "golden state" something? Something with "Condors" or does the fan base want a "traditional" soccer team name? Conquistadors? Too hard to pronounce?
