According to Whoscored.com, Kubo is 173 cm. Messi is 170 cm and Modric is 172 cm. He looks tinier because he's a skinny teenager. Once he adds a bit more weight and improves core strength, he's going to be a consistent problem for the opposition.
Modric is pretty skinny himself. Let's be honest. Messi probably has about 5+ kilos on Modric at his lightest.
Kid has got serious skills and a great attitude on the pitch to match. Need to find a good squad for him next season. I’m sure there will be plenty of suitors.
Very impressed with Kubo. Not particularly concerned if he turns up for us next season or not - but really hopeful that he will be a huge asset for us in the future.
Having said that, Rodrygo looks like someone who could use a loan move playing every week. He has been very conservative whenever he's got minutes since October. Brahim will be loaned out or sold as well(Dortmund interested apparently). And Odegaard will need a lot of convincing to return next season leaving La Real. So that might leave a spot for Kubo on the team if Bale and Lucas leave.
By far, Mallorca's best player. The single focal point on offense. Wouldn't have known he's just 19. He was being hacked by our players left and right, I was almost screaming at them to take it easy. Looks like he's going to be another jewel to add over the next few seasons.
For me he was suffocated and was allowed to express himself better further away from the front when it gave him space to move forward. I still don't believe this kid's best position is in attack. I don't think Mallorca maximized his usage.
The non-EU spot "was" his problem. VJ should be getting his Spanish passport soon. That should free up a non-EU spot for Kubo. He is ahead of Reiner and even, Rodrygo. I will give the non-EU spot to him. Anyway, I do believe that Kubo won't be back until 2021-2022 season. It might be better off for him to be the star over there for another season. Rodrygo should be close to his EU passport by 2021. I have no idea with Militao's situation. He should be in the same situation with Rodrygo. I do not know his issue with Portuguese citizenship.
To be more specific, I don't think he's a winger. He can get by defenders, but doesn't have blistering speed and can get at times get pushed around due to his size. He's at his best when he's in the middle where he can use his ball control to shift around as he pleases.
Even with their special relationship, I do tend to think Portugal requires two years of continuous residence to apply for Portuguese citizenship from Brazil, so since he only spent one season at Porto - and I don't assume he's been commuting from Porto to Madrid and that plan has been derailed anyway by the pandemic if he was - that means the clock restarted for him when he came to Madrid. At least, that is my presumption. I could be wrong. It's actually kind of odd to me in a way that Brazil gets the same perks that the rest of South America gets, but I guess excluding the largest country because they speak a funny version of Spanish* would be kind of silly. But he is eligible to apply after two years of continuous residence in Spain. That timeline would seem to come somewhere shortly after Rodrygo becomes eligible. Vinicius Jr. is eligible to apply this summer...and by "this summer", I guess I mean right about anytime now. *Calm down, my Portuguese and Brazilian irmãos. Eu amo portugues.
All this. Mallorca are patting themselves on the back, but they aren't even getting the most our of him.
That's Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos, and Ferland Mendy he is embarrassing right there. Players with dozens of titles and hundreds of millions of dollars earned, but Kubo makes them all look average. Special little talent.
For me, Kubo will never get his EU passport. He would never renounce his Japanese citizenship (not during his prime when he can represent Japan). VJ probably gets his Spanish passport in early 2021, I read. That probably meant Rodrygo and Militao will get theirs a year later. In between, we might find another Brazilian youngster. So this will be an issue for Kubo.
Well he will need to be so undeniably good that space will be made more him one way or another. Nobody doesn’t want a great player on their team.
